During Thursday night’s Republican debate, there was a contentious exchange between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, in which Cruz accused Trump of holding “New York values.” Bristling at such an accurate accusation, Trump used 9/11 as a shield. Trump’s acolytes applauded, and Twitter erupted with 9/11 dedication memes–because we all know Ted Cruz hates the victims and heroes who died on 9/11.
Trump’s shamefully obvious dodge was apparent to some–people with brain matter. But the world is cruel, and people with functioning brains are severely outnumbered these days by water-heads.
I woke up Friday morning only to find that the cover of the New York Daily News featured the Statue of Liberty giving Ted Cruz the finger. The Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, and the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, were demanding apologies from Cruz. This wasn’t too much of a shock. I mean, liberals. Need I say more? But then I saw that former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani had also jumped on the apology bandwagon. Guh.
GIULIANI: “After all we have been through as a city, and as one undivided nation, to have a United States senator running for President paint New York as a city consumed with greed, sin and media obsession is shocking…Sen. Ted Cruz should apologize to the people of New York for his remarks and to the people of the United States for his crass attempt to divide us.”
I swear Rudy Giuliani is like a 9/11-sniffing dog. Every time he detects a mention of 9/11 in the air, he’s on high alert. He then insinuates himself in the situation for his own glorification. If I had a dime for every time Giuliani mentioned that he was the mayor of New York City during 9/11, I’d be swimming in money like Scrooge McDuck.
Not one to indulge the insanity of the left and the Republican establishment, Ted Cruz spoke with Sean Hannity on the radio Friday, and offered an apology…to the citizens of New York, whose liberal leaders have let them down:
“It’s been an interesting 24 hours, where Donald Trump and Andrew Cuomo and New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio and Hillary Clinton have all demanded an apology because they’re apparently unhappy about people acknowledging that they have embraced New York values. So I’ve heard their demands, and I am happy to give them an apology. I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been abandoned by liberal politicians…”
Following this, Cruz released a video as well as a full statement on his website:
“I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by liberal politicians in that state.
I apologize to the hard working men and women of the state of New York who have been denied jobs because Governor Cuomo won’t allow fracking. Even though there had been many high paying jobs just south in Pennsylvania, New Yorkers are denied the ability to provide for their families.
I apologize to all the pro-life and pro-marriage and pro-second amendment New Yorkers who were told by Governor Cuomo that they have no place in New York because that’s not who New Yorkers are.
I apologize to all the small businesses who have been driven out of New York city by crushing taxes and regulations.
I apologize to the millions of unborn children, many African-American and Hispanic, whose lives have been taken by politicians who relentlessly promote abortion on demand with no limitations.
I apologize to all of the African-American children who Mayor de Blasio tried to throw out of their charter schools that were providing a lifeline to the American Dream.
I apologize to the people of New York who are offended when the New York Daily News lambastes anyone who prays for victims of violence.
I apologize to the people of faith who are ridiculed and insulted by the New York media.
And I apologize to all the cops and the firefighters and 9/11 heroes who had no choice but to stand and turn their backs on Mayor de Blasio, because Mayor de Blasio over and over again stands with the looters and criminals rather than the brave men and women of the law.
And to the millions of conservatives–working men and women in New York, with common sense values, trapped by the failures of your political leaders–I am glad to tell you, help us on the way. 2016, like 1980, will bring America back.”
Boom. That’s how you handle preening faux outrage from the likes of Hillary Clinton, Andrew Cuomo, Donald Trump, and Rudy Giuliani. You turn it right back around and show them their own reflections–though it’s unlikely they have any.
Dear Democrats, Republican establishment hacks, and Donald Trump: Have fun in the corner, because that’s where you’re gonna stay.
