Keep Telling Yourself You Live in a Free Country

“Land of the free, home of the brave” doesn’t apply to the US anymore, but don’t tell that to the brainwashed sheeple still singing it at the top of their lungs. The flat fact is that we’re not brave, no matter which side of the aisle we’re cowering in. As a country, we are motivated almost entirely by fear. Fear of terrorism, fear of conspiracy, fear of conspiracy theorists, fear of global warming, fear of declining industry, fear of job loss, fear of socialism, fear of capitalism, fear Read more […]

Police Brutality is Not a Racial Issue

Every time a police officer harasses or kills a black person, commentators publicize it as another evidence of the chronic racial problem in the United States. But the race narrative is not large enough to account for all police butality. The main problem with law enforcement is not racism. If we were paying attention, we would already know this. Take for instance the recent police shooting of Zachary Hammond. His case has not been widely publicized because it doesn’t fit nicely into the race Read more […]

Police Slam Legally Blind Man to the Ground for no Reason

This is a case you can show liberals that demonstrates that there isn’t an anti-black problem in police departments so much as an anti-civilian problem. It was a black officer who assaulted this legally blind black civilian for no apparent reason. And surprise, surprise, the officer’s official report doesn’t jive with what was captured on the police dash cam video. The officer claimed that the black man “pulled away violently,” which allegedly elicited the cop’s use of excessive force. Read more […]

Police Body Cameras Don’t Ensure Justice, But They Might Decrease Injustice

An interesting article in Slate presents a compelling argument concerning police body cameras: The theory behind the use of body cameras is that video evidence will provide us with some objective truth about what happens in violent encounters between civilians and police. But that is the wrong way to look at it. As the tapes of King’s beating and Garner’s death make clear, video evidence can be very powerful but still not overcome the vast structural advantages enjoyed by the police in the legal Read more […]

11 Cops Taser and Beat Surrendered White Suspect

First things first. I’m not here to defend the actions of the white suspect who led the police on a high-speed chase that ended when the horse bucked him off in the middle of the desert. The guy’s got a criminal record that included attempted robbery, among other things that were not nearly as glamorous such as “resisting arrest” and “disturbing the peace.” He’s not exactly an innocent victim in all this. It started when police were serving a search warrant in an identity theft investigation. Read more […]

What if There Had Been No Video of Walter Scott Being Shot in the Back?

Michael Slager, a police officer in North Charleston, SC, has been charged with murder for shooting Walter Scott. A graphic video of a North Charleston police officer shooting Walter Scott (a fleeing, unarmed black man) in the back may have been the only reason justice has, at least partially, been served. We can only wonder what would have happened in this case if a bystander hadn’t taken video. The Huffington Post published an article with just such a premise. Basically, if all you were going Read more […]

Police Break Man’s Ribs and Face for Not Using Turn Signal

The Michigan man apparently didn’t use a turn signal, and he didn’t come to a full and complete stop either. This prompted police to pull him over, at which point the driver opened his door and put both his hands out of the window to show the officers that he was unarmed. According to police, they thought the driver was reaching for a gun. So the officers approached him with their weapons drawn. One officer held him at gunpoint while the other pulled him out of the vehicle. When the man was Read more […]

Boone County Police Officer “Executes His Duty” … and a Preschool Teacher

Tyler Brockman, a police officer from Boone County, Kentucky, shot and killed a 19-year-old preschool teacher, Samantha Ramsey, when she was trying to leave a field party. He jumped on her hood and shot her four times through the windshield, to protect himself and the people down the road—all of whom were on the road, by the way, being arrested by other police officers. A grand jury decided that no charges would be filed, since apparently the police officer was just protecting his own life and Read more […]

FBI Statistics on Police Homicides Are Way Off

Apparently, the FBI statistics on police homicides, that is, the number of people killed by police, are way, way off: The first-ever attempt by US record-keepers to estimate the number of uncounted “law enforcement homicides” exposed previous official tallies as capturing less than half of the real picture. The new estimate – an average of 928 people killed by police annually over eight recent years, compared to 383 in published FBI data – amounted to a more glaring admission than ever Read more […]

Handcuffed, Jailed Man Mouths Off; Cops Break His Skull

Last December, a Las Cruces, New Mexico man was arrested for pointing a rifle at a neighbor during a parking space dispute and for not complying with police officers’ instructions at the scene. I don’t think anyone has a problem with his being arrested. That’s not the issue. While Russ Flynn was handcuffed in a jail cell, the he said he mouthed off to a cop and then kicked the cell door. After that, two cops barged in and started beating the guy up, kneeing him in the gut, and slamming him Read more […]

Senior Citizen Humiliated, Jailed for “Stealing” his own Car

You could call this a comedy of errors, except there was nothing funny about what happened to this senior citizen. A Nevada Highway Patrol cop ran the wrong plate numbers, and the dispatcher took down the wrong VIN, and what came up in their system was a stolen car. This Washington state older couple were driving their old classic car when they got pulled over. The Free Thought Project detailed what happened next: “Driver! Remove your keys from the ignition and put them on the roof now!” Read more […]

School Cop Assaults Grandmother for Bringing Cupcakes to her Granddaughters

You’d think there was a better way for the cop to handle this situation involving a cupcake-wielding grandmother of 78 years. The Fresno, California grandma Mary Poole was at her granddaughter’s school to drop off homemade cupcakes and cookies when a school cop ordered her to leave because of a court order against her. Apparently, there was a custody battle between the granddaughters’ parents, and for several years, Poole was the girls’ legal guardian, but only until recently. So, the Read more […]
