The overwhelming majority of Floridians favor legalizing medical marijuana and while just over half are in favor making marijuana legal. The Quinnipiac poll showed 87 percent of Floridians supported making marijuana legal for medical purposes if it was prescribed by a doctor. A little over half supported introducing a legal regime to tax and regulate recreational marijuana. Though the majority of people in the Sunshine State took a libertarian view on marijuana legalization, just 7 percent Read more […]

Why Alcohol is Legal Federally and Marijuana is Not

During the second Republican playground shouting match debate, Carly Fiorina had some words to say about alcohol and marijuana: We are misleading young people when we tell them that marijuana is just like having a beer. It’s not. Fiorina is exactly right, one way or the other. Let’s investigate further to determine why marijuana and alcohol are treated differently by the law. We’ll compare marijuana and alcohol in terms of danger to self and danger to others. In terms of danger to self, Read more […]

Cops Raid California Pot Shop, Help Themselves to Pot Edibles

Setting up hidden cameras is a great preparation for when cops raid your business. This is why it’s always smart for businesses to not only have surveillance cameras in plain sight, but also to have hidden cameras. After police had barged in this establishment in California with guns drawn, ordering everyone to the floor and then carting people out, they removed the surveillance cameras. What they didn’t realize was that there were hidden cameras as well that recorded everything they did. Read more […]

Philadelphia Decriminalized Marijuana, and the City Saved $1 Million as a Result

The city of brotherly love decided to decriminalize the possession of marijuana, and what they’ve found is that in the first three months of this year, the city saved an estimated $1 million. It was able to save so much money in so little time, because it redirected police work away from those with possession of weed to those suspected of actual crimes. Every arrest costs the city money. With relatively few people getting arrested for marijuana possession in the city, that means the jails won’t Read more […]

States With Legal Marijuana Have Far Lower Painkiller Drug Fatalities

Maybe legal painkiller drugs should be prohibited… This is only one facet that explains why there’s such an aversion to ending marijuana prohibition. Big Pharma is a massive lobbying force in Washington and throughout the states that has a vested interest in keeping marijuana illegal. It’s not because of “safety” or anything like that. Just look at these statistics from the CDC about legal prescription drug-related deaths in the U.S.: Drug overdose was the leading cause of injury Read more […]

Officer Clorenzo Griffin was a Florida Deputy US Marshal who was caught in Yuba City, California stealing 24 pounds of marijuana at gunpoint and then speeding off, leading police on a high-speed chase that eventually ended in Griffin’s surrender. Oregon’s New State Motto ‘Legal to Get High & Die’?

In 1994, voters in Oregon passed the Death with Dignity Act, making the Pacific northwestern state the first in the US to allow doctor assisted suicide. An injunction held up the implementation of the act until 1997 when it went into effect. This has made a lot of headlines this past week with the assisted suicide death of 29 year old Brittany Maynard. She was suffering from stage four brain cancer known as a glioblastoma. Maynard and her husband moved to Oregon so she could choose the time of Read more […]

New Study Challenges Claims that Marijuana is Harmless

A new 20-year study challenges the recent oft-cited claims that marijuana is a harmless, non-toxic drug. Led by Professor Wayne Hall, a drug advisor to the World Health Organization, the study concludes that many of the claims made by marijuana advocates are false: 1. Long-term users do become physically dependent. 2. Smoking marijuana and driving doubles your risk of being in a fatal car crash. 3. Long-term use of marijuana is associated with various mental disorders and poor performance in school/life. 4. Read more […]

Police Helicopter and SWAT Team Called to Man’s House Over Okra Plants

A Cartersville, Georgia man named Dwayne Perry woke up early one morning to the sound of a low-flying helicopter hovering over his property, and then, within minutes of his awakening, a fully armed and armored SWAT team showed up to his front door. He had no idea what was going on, or why the police were armed the way they were or why they were there ready to raid his house and the rest of his property. It turns out it was all over his okra plants. The police were positive it was marijuana that Read more […]

Teen Pot Use Declines in Colorado Despite Legalization

You don’t have to be a pothead or advocate teen pot use to be in favor of pot decriminalization. Just like, you don’t have to be a drunk to be in favor of alcohol legalization. And you don’t have to be a murderer to be in favor of gun rights. In fact, murderers and other criminals are in favor of gun control, because it potentially disarms their targets. And drug dealers are in favor of drug laws, because they lead to higher profits. All of these things can be easily abused, but making Read more […]

Colorado Man under Influence of Legal Pot Kills Wife

When Colorado legalized the recreational use of marijuana, I predicted that it would lead to more deaths in the state. Earlier this month I wrote about the death of Levy Thamba; a 19 year old exchange student from the Republic of Congo.  He and some friends had traveled to Denver on spring break.  One member of the group was 21 and had legally purchased marijuana laced cookies.  Supposedly, none of them had ever tried marijuana before.  Shortly after eating his cookie, Thamba became ‘agitated Read more […]

Why I’m Now against Drug Legalization

I went through a brief libertarian phase on the matter of drug legalization, but now I’ve come back around against it, albeit for different reasons than I was against it before. It could be seen as a logical inconsistency that conservatives would want to keep drugs illegal on the basis that people shouldn’t have them. Is that not the argument liberals use regarding guns? But when a liberal says this, the conservative comes back with, “Outlawing guns isn’t going to stop bad guys from getting them.” Read more […]
