Piers Morgan said he’s got a solution to cure our society’s racial divisiveness. He tweeted that we should jail any white person who uses the n-word. Ironically, President Obama had just used the n-word at an event recently:
“Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public.”
Presumably, Morgan would say that Obama has the prerogative to use the word, since he’s black. But, to be fair, Obama is half-white.
Even if he were all-black, would such a law that makes the utterance of the n-word illegal and punishable by prison time be fair if it only applied to white people? That seems kind of racist. That would mean that blacks are privileged and are above the law. I thought we were supposed to be treated equally.
And not only that, I don’t think such a law would do much of anything to solve our culture’s racial animus. It would make it much worse.
This is just the sort of law that a white liberal would come up with. Morgan must be patting himself on the back, feeling as if he’s impressing the black community with this hardline approach.
Of course, I’m not defending the usage of the word. What I object to is Morgan’s insistence that we get the government involved. There are lots of things that people do and say that are wrong, and that we would find objectionable. That doesn’t mean you get the government involved and make tons of laws governing those things and impose fines and jail time for violators.
If they can ban this word, what other words will they ban? Homo? Queer? Fag? All of those of course will be allowed to be used by the LGBT crowd, but not by anyone else.
And any epithet people can think of to direct toward Christians will be allowed. I mean, they’ve got 1st Amendment rights.
