Mexican President Calls Opponents Of Illegal Immigration “Discriminatory;” Meanwhile, Illegal Immigrants Entering Mexico Get Prison Time

How can the Mexican President get away with such obvious hypocrisy?

Aggressive ignorance is purposeful, in that it is used to disseminate the opposite of the truth. The opposite of the truth isn’t always diametrical, it can be a slight distortion, which when circulated, and smeared over the ears of the general public, blossoms into something leagues away from reality.

I think it’s time to call it: the president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, is a deliberate, and egregious liar. We have heard from dozens, and dozens of liberal pundits, and politicians over the last few years that anyone who is opposed to illegal immigration is “anti-immigrant,” and therefore racist. We are told that conservatives hate foreigners, specifically Mexicans, and that it is conservatives’ racism that is driving their opposition to illegal immigration. Leaving out one simple word, “illegal,” severely warps the debate to favor the leftist narrative.

In a recent interview on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS, Zakaria asked Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto this question:

When you hear some of the anti-immigrant language, the rhetoric, do you think it’s racist?”

Nieto replied with this blatantly warped answer:

I think it’s discriminatory, yes, and I think it’s unfortunate for a country whose formation and historic origin relies so much on the migration flows of many parts, Europe and Asia, for instance. I think this is a country whose origin to a great extent is one of migration and that’s why it’s unfortunate to hear this exclusionary and discriminatory tones regarding migration flows into the United States.

Nieto knows very well that those who are opposed to illegal immigration in the United States are not–allow me to repeat that in bold for any brain-dead liberals reading this–NOT “anti-immigrant.” That is an absolutely false statement used to distort the illegal immigration argument to favor the left’s agenda. Not only that, it is disgusting that the president of Mexico would resort to a smug smear such as he did.

Nieto uses the age-old polemic of referencing the fact that America is a nation built by immigrants, as if by that fact, the United States must then accept any, and all immigrants, regardless of their legal status, or criminal record, in perpetuity. This argument conflates exclusionary behavior with the practice of the laws of a sovereign nation. It’s an irrelevant argument, and one that Nieto knows is illusory.

The United States has, as all nations do, borders. And those borders are respected, and guarded for numerous reasons, including reasons relating to national security, and economic stability. Mexico, for example, has rather harsh laws regarding illegal immigration. According to Jerry Seper of The Washington Times:

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals…The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to ‘economic or national interests,’ violate Mexican law, are not ‘physically or mentally healthy’ or lack the ‘necessary funds for their sustenance’ and for their dependents.”

So I guess Mexico is exempt from the charges of xenophobia being lobbed at conservatives in the United States.

President Nieto is fully aware of the economic benefits of Mexican citizens illegally migrating into the United States. According to Victor Davis Hanson of National Review:

No one knows how many billions of dollars illegal aliens annually send back to Mexico and other Latin American countries, but the figure may exceed $30 billion — a source of foreign exchange as valuable as oil exports or tourism.”

I’m willing to bet that those figures are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of monetary, and social benefits. President Nieto is deliberately playing into the liberal narrative of labeling anti-illegal immigration activists “anti-immigration” activists. It’s an easy lie, and one that he knows will be endlessly parroted by the leftist American media.

We’re not buying it, Nieto. You’re a fraud, and a liar.
