CNN seems to be the only non-conservative news media covering the despicable comments made by Jonathan Gruber which basically imply that the only reason Obamacare passed was because the American voters are “stupid.” (See background here and here.)
(Though the Morning Joe crew and Howard Dean discussed the topic on MSNBC as well…)
The current White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest, made a splash today when he took a question on Gruber’s comments and somehow use them to attack Republicans. However, the former Press Secretary, Jay Carney, was much more open and critical about the comments while appearing with Jake Tapper on CNN.
“This is not good.
It doesn’t help when someone who helped write not only Obamacare, the president’s Affordable Care Act, but also the precursor to it, which was Governor Romney’s healthcare reform initiative in Massachusetts, speaks from the ivory tower with remarkable hubris about the American voter and by extension the American Congress.
But the fact is, that any health care reform that sought to control costs and expand insurance would involve winners and losers, and that’s always going to be the case, that’s certainly the case.
To speak that way, very harmful politically to the president.”
