Liberal Demeans Blacks to Oppose Voter ID Laws

Liberal calls Blacks “less sophisticated” voters as justification for opposing voter ID laws.

Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human.” – Alveda King

One of the more glaring inconsistencies within liberal philosophy is in their attitude toward black people, and minorities in general. On one hand, they claim to be the fighters of racial injustice–which apparently makes them the sole arbiters of what is, and is not racist–while on the other hand, they support, and implement policy that is clearly, and profoundly racist. However, as long as a particular policy advances the liberal agenda, the left doesn’t care if it is racist, xenophobic, sexist, or just plain insane. In order to cover up their ugly attitudes, liberals attach to conservatives their own racist behaviors. One of those racist behaviors is their relentless opposition to voter identification laws.

Government issued photo identification plays a large part in our lives. We need photo ID in order to rent an apartment, to buy a house, to buy a car, to drive a car, to open a checking account, to get a job, to board a plane, to sign up for college classes, and to do numerous other relatively mundane activities. Yet, one activity for which we do not need government issued photo ID is one of the most important parts of our collective lives: our civic voting duty. Why is that? If we are required to prove our identity, and show that we are United States citizens, in order to participate in so many lesser activities, why are we not required to prove our identity when we are voting for the leaders of our republic? Because it’s racist, according to the left.

Many liberals loudly contend that asking minorities to find a DMV, or other place at which government IDs are issued, is just too much. They claim that many minorities—specifically blacks—don’t have the wherewithal or the money to obtain a photo ID, and that to require it for voting is tantamount to a poll tax, or voter suppression. For reference, let’s see just how easy it is to obtain an ID.

I checked the DMV website for the state of California. I figured I’d go with one of the most liberal states for reference. According to

DMV issues ID cards to persons of any age. The ID card looks like a driver license, but is used for identification purposes only. A regular ID card is valid for six years…You may pay a reduced application fee for an original or renewal identification card if you meet income requirements from a public assistance program.”

The website goes on to list the requirements to obtain a government issued photo ID:

  • Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service)
  • Complete application form DL 44
  • Give a thumb print
  • Have your picture taken
  • Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office.
  • Verify your birth date and legal presence (you may use your California driver license)
  • Pay the application fee. (No fee for a senior citizen ID card.)

The only part of the requirements list that could be construed as even slightly arduous is verifying your legal presence. However, the website goes on to list 28 documents that are acceptable as proof of legal presence. Additionally, unless you don’t exist, you should have a social security number. So why does the left seem to think that black people will have a rough time obtaining an ID? Well, according to taxpayer funded expert witness for the DOJ Charles Stewart:

Understanding within political science, that people who register to vote the closer and closer one gets to Election Day tend to be less sophisticated voters, tend to be less educated voters, tend to be voters who are less attuned to public affairs. That also tells me from the literature of political science that there are likely to be people who will end up not registering and not voting. People who correspond to those factors tend to be African Americans, and, therefore, that’s another vehicle through which African Americans would be disproportionately affected by this law.

Ah, so they’re stupid. Well that explains it! The bigotry of low expectations is the argument being used by the left. That’s low. The left so needs voter fraud to win elections that they have resorted to calling black people just too dumb.

First, to maintain the integrity of our voting process, we must make certain that those voting are not only citizens of the United States, but that people aren’t voting multiple times, or committing other fraudulent acts. Now more than ever, with our ever-rising population of illegal immigrants, we have a problem with possible voter fraud. We must also make it easy to obtain ID so long as one is qualified–and as far as I can tell, obtaining ID is pretty darn simple.

The left doesn’t give a crap about voter suppression, they only care about winning. They want an open election system in which fraud is not only possible, but easy, and to have that, they are telling the world that they believe black people are too stupid to make their way to a DMV, pay an incredibly small fee, and prove they exist. Now that is racism.
