If you are the owner of a business, whether large or small, should you have the right to determine what benefits, including healthcare coverage that you want to provide for your employees? As an employer, you should have the right to determine what kind, if any, retirement program you offer, or what your sick time and vacation policies will be. Should you not have the same rights as an employer about what kind of healthcare coverage you want to provide, especially since you will be paying the lion share of the cost?
According to liberal Democrats like former Vermont Governor Howard Dean, employers should have absolutely no say in what healthcare benefits they are to provide to their employees. It doesn’t matter to Dean that the employer will be paying for a large part of the healthcare benefits; he emphatically believes that the federal government is the only one that can make those decisions, not employers.
Dean recently appeared on CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley. The topic came up about Hobby Lobby’s hearing before the US Supreme Court concerning the contraceptive mandate. Dean stated:
“So, you know, this is one country. We all have to live by a set of things that are passed in Washington and agreed to by the court. We’ll see what the court does, but I don’t think a particular employer has a right to decide what kind of health care their employees are going to get. That’s now in the hands of the federal government, and that’s where it should be.”
Also appearing on the program was former Senator Rick Santorum who disputed Dean’s socialist statements, telling Crowley that the federal government should not be involved in making moral and business decisions for American citizens. He explained:
“I mean, the idea that the First Amendment stops after you walk out of a church, that it doesn’t have anything to do with how you live the rest of your life, I don’t know very many people of faith who believes that their religion ends with just worship. It ends in how you practice and live that faith.”
“And now…what President Obama’s saying, no, once you step outside that church door, then I get to impose my values on you. Your religious values don’t matter anymore, it’s my values that I can impose on you. I don’t think that’s what the First Amendment stands for and I don’t think that’s what the court will say.”
Dean’s statements are socialism to the core. In a socialist society, the government is the only entity with the right to determine what private individuals and privately owned companies are allowed to do. Individual business owners only have the right to do what the government allows them to do and nothing more.
Dean’s statements are also further evidence of the socialist agenda of the Democratic Party. Every aspect of Obamacare reeks of socialism, especially the insurance, employer and contraceptive mandates. They are taking away the rights of individuals, religious groups and private business owners.
People that have legally immigrated here from communist countries have been warning Americans about what Obama and his fellow Democrats are doing to the country. But most Americans ignore their warning and remain complacent and clueless. By the time Americans wake up to what’s happening, it will be too late and the land of the free will be the land of the oppressed and enslaved.
