Geraldo Rivera is trying to blame the tragic accident involving a 9-year-old and an Uzi on the 2nd Amendment. I know I’m not supposed to compare guns with cars, because one is a weapon, and the other can never, ever be used as a weapon. But I’m going to anyway.
People die in car accidents everyday. Even little kids. When are we going to do something about it and decide to outlaw cars? Wouldn’t that save children’s lives? Would liberals be OK with outlawing cars and forcing people to walk, bike or use public transportation? There might still be accidents, but to liberals, we’re all a bunch of numbers. There would be fewer accidental deaths, and that’s all that counts. Should we outlaw private ownership of vehicles, because of how dangerous they are; or, should we still have the right of travel and accept all its risks? Like Thomas Jefferson said, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it.”
With the freedom that we have with traveling and with self-defense weapons, there are going to be accidents that happen. Accidents can be the result of carelessness, but sometimes, they’re just accidents, and it’s nobody’s fault. Liberals never really cared about all the people who’ve died in car accidents, but as soon as a child accidentally kills a gun instructor, they go crazy and try to blame gun owners and the 2nd Amendment. Here’s how Geraldo Rivera reacted:
“Like I’ve always said, the Second Amendment, the provision that gives every American the right to keep and bear arms, is blind and stupid. In its relentless pimping for the gun industry, the NRA has unleashed an avalanche of deadly weapons on this gun-crazy country. Just as [it] protects access to weapons for cops and hunters, it also protects access to weapons for domestic abusers, mental patients, jerk-offs on the no-fly list, all-around dim bulbs, and now little children.
…It is obscene and uncivilized to let a third grader shoot a fully-automatic Uzi machine gun. What was she training for, revolution? Invasion? Service in the coming post-apocalyptic social disorder?”
What happened was a tragic accident. Perhaps her parents had no business letting their young daughter shoot such a powerful weapon. But that’s not the 2nd Amendment’s fault. That’s the responsibility of the parents, and now they and their daughter have to deal with what happened for the rest of their lives. It was an accident, but that doesn’t mean that there are no consequences.
You have crazy teenagers driving recklessly, causing accidents and getting themselves killed, and you don’t hear anyone calling for banning cars on the basis that young, irresponsible kids misuse them. But at this shooting range, no one was being reckless. It was pure accident, and liberals think it was the gotcha moment they’ve all been waiting for.
