It actually took longer than I thought for the tragedy at Sandy Hook to bring out the race-baiters. There are bad people everywhere; and those who use tragedy to push some kind of agenda. There are always those who use sadness to provoke anger, and violence to promote their pet ideas.
If you’ll recall back in 2005, it didn’t take the race-baiters long to start blaming president Bush for the recovery fiasco. It was famously said by Kanye West–mascot of intelligent discourse–that the post-Katrina recovery was taking so long because Bush hated black people. Race is always an issue for those who want it to be. Those with chips on their shoulder, or liberal guilt in the bank will continuously bring up race in the most unnecessary circumstances to make themselves feel relevant.
Now the shooting in Connecticut has brought about one of the number one race-baiters on the talk sow circuit: Cornel West. On The Smiley & West Show, on December 22nd, Cornel West said this:
“We can’t just shed tears for those on the vanilla side of town. They are precious, but they are no less or more precious than our poor brothers and sisters on Indian reservations (who are killing each other) or be they black or brown or what have you…But it’s a good thing that we now have a discussion on gun control. We need one on drone control…not a peep, not a mumbling word when black folk get shot. But now, Newtown, Connecticut, vanilla side — low and behold we got a major conversation. That’s wonderful. Each life is precious but it just upsets me when we’re so deferential.”
And there it is. Listen, Mr. West, let me break this down:
1. It wasn’t because the victims were–how do you dismissively say it? Oh yeah–“vanilla” that this debate intensified, it was because they were young children being murdered en masse.
2. This isn’t even a legitimate debate in the first place. The liberals are using the fact that children were killed as a bridge to get what they have wanted for a long time: gun confiscation.
3. You can’t cover up your disdain for “vanilla” people by back-peddling, adding that they too–those “vanilla” folks–are precious.
4. Finally, you have never further crossed the line into race-baiter territory than you did with this statement.
Cornel West wants guns out of the hands of citizens, just like every other liberal pundit. He also jumps at the chance to make race the center of every debate. It is people like Mr. West that hold our country back; grasping for relevance far past their cultural expiration date. Mr. West, you may be miserable and struggling to find relevance, but we won’t let you drag us down into the mud with you.
