The willingness of people to say anything in order to get what they want is staggering. Once the seed of an agenda is planted in the mind, it cannot stop growing. The seed becomes a small twine; then as it grows, it’s roots sink deeply. Once fully grown, the mind is no longer an open roadway, but a stagnant bog; moving for nothing; only rotting in its own unwillingness to change. This is the gun control debate. Democrats have ceded their minds to absolutist gun control, and nothing can be said that contradicts that dictum. They have laid down an edict that guns must be gotten rid of, and so it must be.
At a recent hearing regarding campus gun control, Colorado State Senator Evie Hudak responded to the testimony of rape survivor, Amanda Collins with this:
“I just want to say, statistics are not on your side, even if you had had a gun. You said that you were a martial arts student, I mean person, experience in taekwondo, and yet because this individual was so large and was able to overcome you even with your skills, and chances are that if you had had a gun, then he would have been able to get than from you and possibly use it against you.”
This statement follows several similar statements made by Democrats in recent weeks. Colorado State Representatives Salazar and Rosenthal said that rather than guns, women should use–get this–the buddy system, Judo, whistles, or emergency call boxes.
In addition to these extremely obvious and unhelpful suggestions, Representative Salazar had the audacity to say that women shouldn’t use firearms in cases of rape because they may shoot someone unintentionally.
According to Salazar:
“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop…pop [a round] at somebody.”
I have several things to say about this:
1. These Representatives are implying that women–in general–not only don’t know how to handle a gun, but would be so careless as to shoot an innocent person, thinking they were a rapist. That reeks of misogyny.
2. If these Representatives were Republicans, you can bet that MSNBC, and every Liberal news agency would be calling for their resignations. However, since they’re Democrats, nothing is being done.
3. Representative Hudak is making the broad assumption that a gun wouldn’t have saved Amanda Collins’ life. Hudak is making the incorrect assumption that because Collins’ training in martial arts didn’t help her–given the strength of the rapist–a gun would have been equally useless. This is insane, given that martial arts requires contact, while a firearm does not.
Telling women to use a whistle instead of a firearm is like telling a surgeon to use a butter knife instead of a scalpel. Taking firearms away from women that need them is tantamount to allowing rape.
In their quest for a gun free world, Liberals are creating a more dangerous society. Criminals will not obey “gun free zone” signs, and they will not obey laws that restrict assault weapons and high capacity magazines. The only thing these types of laws accomplish is to disarm law-abiding citizens; and create future victims.
These Representatives should be reprimanded for their insane behavior.
