During last week’s vice presidential debate, the subject of Obamacare and the contraceptive mandate came up. Republican Paul Ryan took a shot at the Democrats for forcing Catholic run colleges, hospitals and social services to go against their faith by providing contraceptives and abortion services.
Biden, whose performance during the debate could only be described as the loud annoying braying of jackass, reacted to Ryan’s comment and said:
“With regard to the assault on the Catholic Church, let me make it absolutely clear. No religious institution—Catholic or otherwise, including Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital—none has to either refer contraception, none has to pay for contraception, none has to be a vehicle to get contraception in any insurance policy they provide. That is a fact. That is a fact.”
After the debate, the United States’ Conference of Catholic Bishops refuted Biden’s statement with the following response:
“This is not a fact.”
The HHS mandate contains a narrow, four-part exemption for certain ‘religious employers.’ That exemption was made final in February and does not extend to ‘Catholic social services, Georgetown hospital, Mercy hospital, any hospital,’ or any other religious charity that offers its services to all, regardless of the faith of those served.”
“HHS has proposed an additional ‘accommodation’ for religious organizations like these, which HHS itself describes as ‘non-exempt.’ That proposal does not even potentially relieve these organizations from the obligation ‘to pay for contraception’ and ‘to be a vehicle to get contraception.’ They will have to serve as a vehicle, because they will still be forced to provide their employees with health coverage, and that coverage will still have to include sterilization, contraception, and abortifacients. They will have to pay for these things, because the premiums that the organizations (and their employees) are required to pay will still be applied, along with other funds, to cover the cost of these drugs and surgeries.”
“USCCB continues to urge HHS, in the strongest possible terms, actually to eliminate the various infringements on religious freedom imposed by the mandate.”
“For more details, please see USCCB’s regulatory comments filed on May 15 regarding the proposed ‘accommodation.’”
In fact, more than 100 Catholic and Protestant entities have filed suit against the federal government over the Obamacare contraception mandate. To keep track of the numerous lawsuits filed against the HHS Mandate, visit The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty.
Biden said in the debate that he takes his faith seriously and that it defines who he is. He doesn’t seem to agree or stand with the Catholic Church in any of their positions. He votes against the Catholic Church’s stand on marriage, gay rights, abortion and contraceptives. The Catholic Church also takes exception to lying, especially to the American people on such an important issue.
It seems that Biden has a different Catholic faith than that of the Catholic Church. He constantly lies to the American people as he did in the debate on the HHS Mandate. He supports abortion, gay rights and same-sex marriage. He also endorses gays openly serving in the military and forcing military chaplains to go against their faith by performing same-sex marriages.
To be honest, I would categorize Joe Biden as a pathological liar whose lies become his truth the moment the words leave his lips. I know others that are pathological liars and the saddest part is that you can never convince them they are lying, even if you record them and play it back for them. And to think that he is next in line for the White House if anything happened to Obama. Now that’s scary.
