Amnesty is for Democrat voting, not for the good of the nation.
Opportunity is a constant in life, and not something to be looked down upon. Every day, we are given opportunities that we may choose to take, or pass by, and that is the sum of life: millions upon millions of choices. Some of these choices are minute, and some monumental, depending, of course, on your position in life. But what is an opportunist? According to Google, an opportunist is “a person who exploits circumstances to gain immediate advantage rather than being guided by consistent principles or plans.” The profession most often associated with opportunism is that of the politician. When someone in a position of extraordinary power behaves in an opportunistic fashion, the ramifications can be frightening.
President Barack Obama is an opportunist. That’s not to negate the fact that he is also an ideologue. He’s both. He says whatever needs to be said at the moment to ensure his ideological agenda is advanced. He takes every opportunity to push forward his ideas, even if that means lying to the American people, such as we’ve seen with the recent Jonathan Gruber fiasco. With Obama set to extend executive amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants in the coming weeks, it is at this moment that we can best examine his opportunistic tendencies.
In his book The Audacity of Hope, published in 2006, Barack Obama wrote the following:
“If this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy as a whole—especially by keeping our workforce young, in contrast to an increasingly geriatric Europe and Japan—it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and put strains on an already overburdened safety net.”
In February of 2013, the president assured Americans that he couldn’t make sweeping dictations, saying: “The problem is, is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed.”
Given these statements, we can make the assumption that Obama knows very well the limits of his power, as well as the negative consequences of amnesty. That much seems clear. If that is the case, why is he proceeding with his plans to grant amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants who—as he himself said—would put strains on an already overburdened safety net? The answer: his priorities supersede those of the American people’s. What is best for Obama, and his Party is what comes first.
With that, we are forced to ask the question: What is more important than the economic, and physical well being of Americans? Demographic power. The ongoing theory behind why the Democrats desperately want amnesty, and an open border, is that it benefits their Party in the long run. A majority of Hispanic voters vote Democrat, and there’s no reason to believe that amnestied Hispanic voters would be any different. Specifically, amnestied voters would be grateful to the Party that was responsible for their citizenship, and resentful to the Party that opposed such measures. With an influx of millions of new Democratic voters, the Republican Party would never again win a national election.
But there’s another negative. We have already reached a tipping point, a point at which the takers are beginning to outweigh the contributors. The great majority of illegal immigrants are less educated, and likely to take on low-skill, low-wage jobs. What they contribute to the economy will be greatly outweighed by what they receive from the federal government. Just as Obama mentioned in his book, this will put incredible strain on a system which is already overburdened, eventually causing it to collapse.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies:
“High welfare use by immigrant-headed households with children is partly explained by the low education level of many immigrants. Of households headed by an immigrant who has not graduated high school, 80 percent access the welfare system, compared to 25 percent for those headed by an immigrant who has at least a bachelor’s degree.”
We know the negative consequences of amnesty, and unless Obama’s a moron, he too knows the negative consequences. Given what he wrote in his book, and the statistics regarding immigrant welfare usage, etc, he must know that granting amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants residing in the United States would put incredible strain on the economy, and present a host of other negative consequences. Even in the face of all of that, Obama is still willing to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants so that his Party may benefit in the future.
Ethics are irrelevant. Power trumps all. What a guy.
