After the raid on the US Consulate in Benghazi, there was a great deal of controversy surrounding what caused the attack and the lack of proper security measures at the Consulate.
At first, President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it was a protest prompted by the anti-Islam video produced in a garage. US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told the UN and the world that the attack was part of protest over the video. This raised a whirlwind of controversy on whether or not the White House and State Department were trying to cover up anything or not.
Then a huge storm of controversy erupted concerning the security measures in place at the Consulate at the time of the attack. Reports surfaced indicating that US Ambassador Christopher Stevens had requested additional security measures in the months prior to the attack. The use of untrained locals for security also raised cause for concern.
In an effort to understand everything that took place and where problems occurred, the Obama Administration hand selected a panel (Accountability Review Board for Benghazi) to investigate everything leading up to an after the attack. This impartial panel assigned to investigate their own people and just released their findings and which read in part:
“Systemic failures, leadership and management deficiencies at senior levels within two bureaus of the State Department resulted in a Special Mission security posture that was inadequate for Benghazi and grossly inadequate to deal with the attack that took place.”
“However, the Board did not find reasonable cause to determine that any individual U.S. government employee breached his or her duty.”
Even though Hillary Clinton addressed the nation, telling everyone that as Secretary of State, she accepts full responsibility for what happened at Benghazi, the review board cleared her and Obama of any wrong doing.
So let me get this straight. The Obama administration hand selects a review board to investigate what happened and who was to blame and they somehow miraculously clear both Clinton and Obama when information prior to the review implicate them both!
At least the review board did state there was no evidence that the attack had anything to do with a protest as first claimed.
