“Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it.” – Thomas Sowell
I seem to recall time when American values included the success of capitalism. The rise from an individual of little means to a CEO used to something that was celebrated; it was a sign of American ingenuity, and the power of drive. Somewhere along the road, that once celebrated story became marred by the resentment of others. Once envy wrapped its strong arms around certain groups, and individuals, an ideology grew that desired the punishment of those who would be successful. That ideology is now in control of a large portion of our government.
America is riding down the same road that Europe traveled long ago. If we look closely, we can see the marks in the dirt, leading to our destruction. But rather than see those marks as a warning, we see them as the direction in which we should head. We see collapse, but rather through a green lens of envy. Here’s an example of where we’re headed. According to Bloomberg:
“French President Francois Hollande received approval from the country’s constitutional court to proceed with his plan to tax salaries above 1 million euros at 75 percent for this year and next. Under Hollande’s proposal, companies will have to pay a 50 percent duty on wages above 1 million euros ($1.4 million). In combination with other taxes and social charges, the rate will amount to 75 percent of salaries above the threshold, the court wrote in a decision published today.“
It’s all part of a “fair share” initiative Hollande is using to please his socialist base. Essentially, this tax is a we-don’t-like-that-you’re-rich fee. It takes those companies who are most successful—as defined by revenue—and tells them that they must give more simply because they have it.
Now, there are restrictions regarding how much can ultimately be taken from these companies, etc, and those restrictions are being touted as the right thing to do, but the point isn’t lost on me. This talk of the restrictions is only a distraction. It’s smoke and mirrors that lead you away from the base facts: France is taxing successful companies at 75%. That’s 3/4, for those who prefer fractions. That’s practically theft.
American Liberals, ever intent on following the lead of their European role models, will not be far behind. Our taxes are already in a constant rise, and our president has frequently talked about “fair shares.” It will only get worse. This scheme will work because the Liberals of America—specifically Obama—have stoked fiscal resentment. They have sown the seeds of our destruction with the basest of human evils: greed, and envy. They have trained their acolytes to see what others have, and want it for themselves. They have taught their followers that being rich is evil.
At this moment, many will see president Hollande’s move as something being done in a far off land; something that has no impact on us. This is America! Well, I’m setting my timer. It’s only a matter of time. Greed can run faster than you think.
