Who’s the Baby’s Daddy Homework Question Raises Parent’s Ire

As a parent, how would you react if your ninth grader came home with a question on the biology homework that read:

“The sister of the mom above also had issues with finding out who the father of her baby was.  She had the state take a blood test of potential fathers.  Based on the information in this table, why was the baby taken away by the state after the test?”

Among the possible answers listed were the bartender, cab driver, cable guy and the guy at the club. The purpose of the question was to help teach blood types and DNA, but as a biologist I know that there are a number of ways of teaching the subject without teaching immorality and sin.

Larry Basaj is the father of a ninth grader at Romeo High School who was appalled by the biology question.  He had his daughter turn in the homework with that question left unanswered and his note that said:

“We teach our children not to sleep around.”

He also called the school district to complain to Nancy Campbell, the Superintendent of the Romeo School District.  In an interview with WDIV News, Basaj said:

“What are they teaching … what is … I couldn’t come up with the words. I was like oh my God. It’s teaching them that it’s OK to not know who it is because you can have the state help ya.  And if they can’t help you they are going to take your child away, and it’s not the way it is. I was beyond fired up last night.”

It turns out the teacher got the question from an online teaching source that refers to concepts the children can understand.  That still doesn’t make it right or excuse the teacher who should have read the question first and dismissed it because of its immoral connotations.  It’s also a sad commentary of how far American society and values have fallen when this type of question is easily understood by today’s youth.

The more our kids and grandkids are exposed to questions like this in school, the more they believe it to be acceptable behavior to sleep around without being married.  It dulls the senses of morality and virtue.

This is also a good example of why it is so important for parents to monitor and be involved with their kids school work.  Today’s public schools are teaching extremely liberal, anti-Christian, anti-America and anti-parent ideologies.  Their goals are not to educate your children, but to teach them to be good socialist comrades when they grow up, and they are doing it in many different ways.  Unless you as a parent get involved, you’ll lose your child to the government by the time they graduate high school.
