Video: Store Owner Unloads Rifle on 3 Armed Burglars

It was a good thing this Milwaukee, Wisconsin clothing store wasn’t a gun-free zone. If it had been, this storeowner would be a dead man.

It was late one night, and the owner of Bouchard’s was at work alone. A vehicle backed into the store entrance, breaking open the gate. Three armed guys ran in, but they didn’t get very far. When the owner saw what was going on, he grabbed his rifle from the back and shot at them several times. That was enough to get them all to run for their lives. One of the guys was hit and is now in the hospital recovering from his gunshot wounds, and he’s apparently not cooperating with police.

WISN reported:

The owner of the store found out Wednesday he won’t be charged in the shooting.

The attorney for Bouchard’s owner told WISN 12 News reporter Christina Palladino his client had every right to defend himself after three men with guns broke into his store.

“The persons who tried to break into his store that night not only intended to steal but intended to kill him,” attorney John Schiro said.

He said the video clearly illustrates how the men rammed the back of a stolen minivan into concrete posts blocking the entrance. Then, the men jumped out and tried to squeeze through the opening of the gate.

“When Mr. Murrar saw these fellows, he immediately, because he saw they were armed, and that they saw him, and they were really making eye contact like ‘Are you really going to come in?’ He momentarily didn’t realize that his pistol was right there. He went into the back room and got the rifle that he used,” Schiro said.

One of the men was shot multiple times. Deishun Byrd-Mcway, 21, is charged in the break-in.

He was apparently taken by his friends in a getaway car to a nearby hospital, where he has refused to cooperate with police.

Here’s surveillance footage of the confrontation:

I know those kinds of guns are politically incorrect, and that no one really needs one, especially since the only useful purpose of a gun is to hunt deer. And remember what New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said:  “No one needs ten bullets to kill a deer!” But if it hadn’t been for this storeowner keeping a powerful gun handy, he would likely be just another murder victim mentioned on the evening news.
