Unfair: Woman Possibly Facing Charges For Dumping Newborn Baby In A Dumpster

“Bravery is believing in yourself, and that thing nobody can teach you.” – El Cordobes

It’s so difficult in our society to be brave. We have been conditioned to keep hidden our bravery because it may cause a violent reaction. When we do stand up for what we believe in, or make a difficult decision, we are often heavily, and publicly criticized. So it is always an incredible sight to see bravery on display.

According to The Houston Chronicle, a local man stumbled upon a baby suffocating in a dumpster, and without the consent of the baby’s mother, rescued it. He called 911, and held the freezing baby close to him while he waited for help to arrive.

“Investigators later located and interviewed the newborn’s 16-year-old mother, who admitted putting the baby in the dumpster, said Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties. The mother, who police said attended South Houston High School, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Pearland. Once she has been released from the hospital, investigators will speak with officials at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine what, if any, charges will be filed…”

I’m sorry, charges? What did this young woman do wrong? She clearly cannot afford to take care of this infant, and at just 16 years old, how can anyone expect her to raise a child? This is typical of our patriarchal system. We live in a society run by men, where women have no say. Our society clearly values the life of an unborn child more than it values women’s health, women’s goals, and lifestyle choices.

What is wrong with this country? This brave young girl is simply trying to live her life. Is it so wrong to want to have unprotected sex with multiple partners without having to worry about being punished with a child? This girl could have chosen to go to an abortion clinic and had the child terminated, but she didn’t. She decided—as is her right as a woman—to terminate the child in her own manner: by putting it in a garbage bag, and unloading it in a dumpster. If we can clamp off the heads of children in the womb, why not just chuck them in the trash? It’s a simple extension of logic.

Additionally, what kind of life would this child have had? What if the young woman was a drug abuser, or lived in a home with abusive parents? What then? The child would grow up in a terrible environment. The adoption system is a mess, and that wouldn’t end well either. Who are we to send this child into a miserable life? We’re not God. This was the merciful act of a young woman who was simply looking out for the best interest of the child, as well as herself.

In the end, her situation would have been a win/win. She wouldn’t have been burdened by her sexual decisions, and her baby wouldn’t have had to live a possibly terrible life. But now, with the possibility of criminal charges, this situation has become a nightmare. I feel so sorry for this young woman, and all who experience similar situations. Being brave has its costs.

(Note: Hopefully you all realize this is satire.)
