Students Told They Can’t Fly American Flags in School Parking Lot

I wonder if school officials would have cared all that much if students had flown the rainbow flag right after the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage should be permissible in every state in the nation. Everyone was flying the rainbow flag. The White House turned into a rainbow flag.

But the American flag is racist and offensive. At least they’re consistent. We were told that the Confederate battle flag was racist and offensive, and some wondered if the American flag would be next on the list of things to ban.

Apparently, American flags aren’t allowed on government school grounds. Schools, after all, are in designated “safety zones.” The presence of an American flag or a Confederate flag in the parking lot poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of students. WSB-TV reported:

A student says when his mother came to pick him up in his truck flying an American flag at his Carroll County high school, a staff member told them it wasn’t allowed to be flown on school property.

Channel 2’s Craig Lucie went to Mount Zion High School in Carrolton where multiple students are standing behind him and flying flags on their cars.

“When we got here, they was all yelling at us to take our flags down or they would be cut down and stuff like this,” said student LaChristopher Hebert.

Herbert and his friend Nate Maples are just two of many Mount Zion High School students who have been flying an American flag in support of their friend.

They gathered at the school a day after a Facebook post in which the student wrote, “I find it disturbing that when my mom picks me up from school in my truck flying an American flag, a staff member comes outside and tells me that we are not allowed to fly it in the schools parking lot.”

“It’s not right. This is what we live for. This is what our soldiers are fighting for, things like this,” said Herbert.

An American flag flies in front of Mount Zion High School and many students are asking how that differs from when they fly the flag on the back of their trucks.

“We pledge that flag every day in the classroom. Why can’t we show our support outside the classrooms?” Maples asked.

That’s a good question. They have flags inside the school where all the students pledge their allegiance to them. But students aren’t allowed to have flags outside on school grounds.

School officials probably think that the ones outside mean something different from the ones inside. If a kid wants to fly a big American flag from the back of his pickup, that means he’s probably some kind of white racist. Pledging your allegiance to Obama the American flag inside is totally fine.
