Soldier Forcibly Retired for Being Conservative Christian Files Lawsuit

Last year I shared with you the story of how an Army Master Sergeant was disciplined for celebrating his promotion by serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches and celebrating the defense of Marriage Act. He received a formal reprimand in his file and then on his next annual review was told he was a mediocre soldier.

Meet Master Sergeant Nathan Sommers, who was a decorated soloist with the US Army Band Chorus for 25 years. He sang a solo at the funeral of former First Lady Betty Ford.

The US Army Band Chorus is known as ‘Pershing’s Own’ but one has to wonder what General Pershing would say today if he knew what his band was doing to one of its decorated members.

Since my previous report, Sommers was forced to retire from the Army on the grounds of his Christian and conservative political beliefs. According to Sommers’ attorney John Wells, his problems all started when Sommers’ supervisor learned of his personal belief in the biblical view of marriage. When Sommers stood up for his constitutional religious rights, the supervisor started the harassment.

Sommers had also placed two anti-Obama bumper stickers on his personal car. One sticker read ‘NOBAMA’ and the other read ‘The Road to Bankruptcy is Paved with Ass-Fault’ and had a picture of a donkey. Sommers was ordered to remove his anti-Obama stickers from his car; but his attorney, Wells noted that no one with pro-Obama bumper stickers were asked to remove their bumper stickers.

When Sommers was forced to retire, the Army also mentioned the fact that he read books written by well-known conservatives including Sean Hannity, David Limbaugh and Mark Levin. The real crime was that he was caught reading them while wearing his Army uniform which his supervisor claimed was responsible for ‘unit disruption.’ Sommers commented about the incident, saying:

“I wasn’t reading aloud. I was just reading privately to myself. I was told they were frowning on that and they warned me that I should not be reading literature like that backstage because it was offensive.”

An official military document referring to M. Sgt. Sommers stated:

“As a Soldier you must be cognizant of the fact that your statements can be perceived by the general public and other service members to be of a nature bordering on disrespect to the President of the United States.”

Because of his Christian and conservative views, the Army ordered that Sommers was to be discharged on July 31, 2014. Since he had enough years to retire, they allowed him to take retirement over the discharge, but regardless, it was forced upon him.

Master Sergeant Nathan Sommers is living proof of the intolerant discrimination of the Obama administration against conservative Christians. They are denied their constitutional rights of freedom of speech and religion. The discrimination is so great in the military that military personnel are not allowed to say or demonstrate anything negative against Obama. Oh sure, you can say anything positive about the Liar in Chief, but don’t dare criticize him.

And when is it wrong to read a politically conservative book while in military uniform? Soldiers are certainly allowed to read the works of faming leftwing socialists like Betty Friedan, Michael Harrington, Karl Marx and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The only ones you could offend or disrupt by reading those while in uniform would be conservatives and Christians, but who cares about offending them. It’s okay to offend conservatives and Christians, but it’s not okay to offend liberals, atheists, homosexuals and socialists.

Today’s top military leaders have been hand selected by the Obama administration based upon whether or not they would give the order to fire upon American citizens. Now realize that today’s customized military is supposed to be defending the very freedoms that they are trampling on. Doesn’t that make you feel real safe and secure?
