Senate Bill Gives $60 Million to CDC to Study “Epidemic of Gun Violence”

I didn’t know that “gun violence” was a disease. Liberals are always redefining things. Marriage has been redefined so that it is no longer just between a man and a woman. Science has been redefined so that it is now something that is determined by a consensus of politically connected scientists. And now disease has been redefined to include things such as “gun violence.”

Gun violence is now not only a disease; it’s an epidemic. Even our new Surgeon General had declared it a “public health hazard.” And Senate Democrats want to give the CDC $60 million to study this new epidemic and ways to prevent it. CNS News reported:

Democratic lawmakers have introduced legislation to authorize $60 million in taxpayer money to go to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) for research on gun violence prevention.

The measure, introduced last week, would give $10 million a year “for each of fiscal years 2016 through 2021 for the purpose of conducting or supporting research on firearms safety or gun violence prevention under the Public Health Service Act.”

“The epidemic of gun violence in America is not preordained, it is preventable,” Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass.) says in a press release. “In the 21st century, we should use research and advances in technology to our advantage and save lives from tragic and needless gun violence.”

“Some would have us believe that the laws currently on the books are sufficient to address the tens of thousands of gun related deaths that occur each year,” said Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.). “A few extremists even oppose basic public health research to help us understand why gun violence has reached epidemic proportions.”

According to the CDC online self-study course in Epidemiology, “Epidemic refers to an increase, often sudden, in the number of cases of a disease above what is normally expected in that population in that area.”

The course later notes, “the previous description of epidemics presumes only infectious agents, but non-infectious diseases such as diabetes and obesity exist in epidemic proportion in the U.S.”

People use all sorts of tools to commit acts of violence. Guns aren’t the only type of tool out there. People use knives, bats, hammers, and even their own fists or feet to injure or kill others. But I doubt these same Senate Democrats would consider any of those acts of violence to be some sort of a disease, let alone an epidemic.

That’s because this isn’t actually about health. It’s purely about guns and finding ways to stigmatize firearms in the eyes of the public. Just consider the term ‘gun violence.’ Liberals don’t care about other forms of violence. Just the violence that involves guns.
