Poll Shows Majority of Young People Don’t Want Obamacare

Obama recently remarked in a speech that “100 million Americans have gained the right for free…contraception.” So, you’d think all the young people would be completely sold on the (not so) Affordable Care Act. But a poll conducted by Harvard showed that youths just aren’t buying it:

The Harvard “Millennials” poll found only 22 percent of young Americans — defined in the survey as between 18 and 29 years old — plan to sign up for ObamaCare. Even more troubling for the administration, fewer than a third — only 29 percent — of people who currently do not have health insurance plan to enroll…

The poll also found the president’s approval rating is at a historic low among 18-29 year olds. A year ago, they were crucial to his re-election.  Today, only 41 percent of Millennials approve of the president’s performance. That is an 11-point drop since Harvard’s last survey in April…

One reason younger Americans are so skeptical of ObamaCare is that they believe it will result in higher costs and a lower quality of care. Fully 51 percent of respondents said they expect the cost of care will increase under the Affordable Care Act. By a 2-1 margin, 44 percent said they expect the quality of care will decline.

The “young invincibles,” as they’re called, realize that they’re the ones who are truly having to foot the bill for the older and sicker generations. And they’re deciding that it’s just not worth it. Without their willingness to pay for the health insurance of other people, the system will go bankrupt, like everything else in government. And the poor and sick will be enrolling into Medicaid, which won’t help matters. Former CBO head and economist Douglas Holtz-Eakin, observed:

“If the age group doesn’t sign up at all then the so-called exchanges [will be] filled with very high-cost patients, and the government will have to subsidize them extensively. We’ll end up with a government-run program for very sick people, something we’ve already had.”

Since living off borrowed money (and other people’s tax money) only gets you so far, they’ll have to implement “austerity measures” at some point, which will only make those government dependents angry and riotous.
