I can only imagine that that’s what Planned Parenthood would say after how they misquoted Scott Walker. Walker was voicing his support for legislation that requires ultrasounds for mothers requesting abortions. He said that many mothers decide against an abortion once they see their baby on an ultrasound:
“I’ll give you an example. I’m pro-life, I’ve passed pro-life legislation. We defunded Planned Parenthood, we signed a law that requires an ultrasound. Which, the thing about that, the media tried to make that sound like that was a crazy idea. Most people I talk to, whether they’re pro-life or not, I find people all the time who’ll get out their iPhone and show me a picture of their grandkids’ ultrasound and how excited they are, so that’s a lovely thing. I think about my sons are 19 and 20, you know we still have their first ultrasound picture. It’s just a cool thing out there.
We just knew if we signed that law, if we provided the information, that more people if they saw that unborn child would, would make a decision to protect and keep the life of that unborn child.”
Planned Parenthood responded: “Let’s get one thing straight: Forcing women to undergo transvaginal ultrasounds before letting them access safe, legal abortion is not a ‘lovely’ or a ‘cool thing.’… aren
First of all, they seem to be suggesting that abortions are less “intrusive and invasive” than an ultrasound, a completely absurd suggestion. Secondly, neither Walker nor the legislation to which he referred said anything about transvaginal ultrasounds. Why would they automatically assume that all ultrasounds that are done are transvaginal instead of the usual transabdominal?
Even if it were the case that transvaginal ultrasounds were more routine, are they really saying that those would be less “intrusive and invasive” than breaking apart an unborn baby into pieces, sucking its brains out, or some combination of the above? Sometimes abortion procedures seriously injury or even kill the mother. When has an ultrasound, either transvaginal or transabdominal, ever hurt or killed a mother and/or her unborn child?
Planned Parenthood is supposed to be an authority on women’s health and reproductive issues. They should know better.
