Planned Parenthood: “Extremist Videos Nothing Short of an Attack on Women”

This video series being released by the Center for Medical Progress is all a part of the GOP’s “war on women.” According to Planned Parenthood’s president, Republicans and pro-life (anti-women) activists just don’t want women to have safe, affordable, and – let’s not forget – legal access to healthcare. Like mammograms. Yes, this is all about straight, white male-privileged extremists wanting to prevent women from getting…mammograms.

Planned Parenthood is in damage control now. Its president Cecile Richards penned an article published by the Washington Post where she defends her organization and attacks CMP for daring to expose their filth. She wrote:

The most recent attacks in this decades-long campaign represent a new low.

These extremists created a fake business, made apparently misleading corporate filings and then used false government identifications to gain access to Planned Parenthood’s medical and research staff with the agenda of secretly filming without consent — then heavily edited the footage to make false and absurd assertions about our standards and services. They spent three years doing everything they could — not to uncover wrongdoing, but rather to create it. They failed.

While our opponents have been working to create scandal and panic where none exists, doctors and nurses at Planned Parenthood health centers have continued to provide care to thousands of women, men and young people every day — contraception, cancer screenings, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and safe and legal abortion.

Whose efforts are doing more to help families and make our country healthier?

Attacking this [federal Planned Parenthood] funding is attacking women who need preventive health care, including women who need cancer screenings and contraception. Congress should not allow politics to get in the way of lifesaving care.

Planned Parenthood is definitely in damage control mode. I’m sure executives have been meeting with professional PR consultants and receiving media training.

However, as much as I wish that this would be the beginning of the end for this organization, I don’t think it will take very long for the American people to forget about it. Every time there’s been a scandal, the most that happens is that an official resigns, is fired, or is transferred. All that means is that that person is replaced with someone just as bad. And the scandal is allowed to continue, because people’s outrage fizzles.

It will be the same way with Planned Parenthood. Some of the doctors interviewed in the undercover videos might resign. Others will be transferred elsewhere, but nothing will really change. No one’s going to go to jail. Planned Parenthood will live on. For the time being, anyway.

These videos need to be released, because people need to know how low this organization goes in their flippant disregard for human life, and that taxpayer dollars help fund this operation. But I think all this exposure is doing is normalizing their activity. It’s like Snowden’s exposure of what the NSA has been up to with its snooping programs. It was a scandal for a little while, but it didn’t take long for the issue to normalize, for people to get used to it, to not be surprised by it. People’s outrage fizzled, and now it’s not so much a scandal anymore. It’s “just the way things are.”

I fear that’s what’s going to happen with Planned Parenthood’s scandal. People will get used to it. I hope I’m wrong though.
