Planned Parenthood thinks they finally have evidence that will bring down the Center for Medical Progress. In its seventh video, CMP used very brief footage of an apparent stillborn baby in the context of an ex-procurement specialist talking about cutting into the face of an aborted baby to harvest its brain, and witnessing its heart beating when prompted by a doctor’s tapping the heart. However, the baby appeared to be alive, but dying. It was moving its legs.
Obviously, the entire video is worth seeing, but to see the baby in question, fast forward to around 5:50 in this video:
The anti-abortion-rights group targeting Planned Parenthood is acknowledging that its most recent video used an image of a stillborn baby that was made to look like an aborted fetus.
The Center for Medical Progress posted a new link on its video late Thursday, adding that one of the images was actually a baby named Walter Fretz, born prematurely at 19 weeks.
Planned Parenthood is seizing on the clarification, arguing that it is new proof the videos are deceptively edited in an attempt to take down the organization.
“This fraudulent smear campaign is falling apart on closer inspection,” said Eric Ferrero, vice president for communications at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
“These anti-abortion extremists apparently violated multiple laws to perpetrate this fraud. They weren’t documenting wrongdoing — they set out to create wrongdoing and catch it on tape, and when they couldn’t even do that, they edited videos to try to mislead and deceive the public.”
The photo of the baby was apparently identified by the baby’s mother on Facebook. Last year, The Guardian had received permission from the mother to publish the photo.
In response to Planned Parenthood’s criticism, David Daleiden of CMP stated:
“We never claimed that was an image of an aborted baby. It’s just an illustration of what a baby looks like at the end of the 2nd trimester. It’s interesting that Planned Parenthood and their allies assumed so quickly that’s what was happening – are they just grasping at straws, or are their consciences also starting to get to them?”
I wish they either hadn’t used that brief footage of the baby, or had notated in the video what it was that viewers were seeing. In context, it does look like the ex-procurement technician was talking about that very baby. It’s true that they didn’t ever claim that it was an aborted baby, but come on. What are people going to think when they see that footage in the context of the conversation?
Having said that, it is important to see what a baby looks like at that age of development so that people can see what Planned Parenthood and places like StemExpress prefer to deal with. I just with they had notated in the video itself that that was a stillborn baby – who appeared to be still alive.
But who cares? The fact that CMP used footage of a stillborn doesn’t somehow give Planned Parenthood and biotech companies a moral discount to do what they’ve been doing for years. Planned Parenthood not only willingly kills unborn and partially born babies, but they also sell their body parts and prefer to get them as far along as possible so that their organs are more developed and marketable to biotech companies. That explains why Democrats are so insistent that we keep partial-birth abortion legal.
