Pelosi once described the issue of abortion as “sacred ground.” A reporter had pressed her on what difference there was between Kermit Gosnell, who killed babies who had been born, and other doctors who killed babies just seconds before they were to be born. She responded, in part:
…As the mother of five children, my oldest child was 6 years old the day I brought my 5th child home from the hospital. As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this…
Pelosi also won Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger award. Sanger, of course, was the great eugenicist and racist who wanted to do away with minority groups through sterilization, contraception, and abortion. And she was Planned Parenthood’s founder.
Pelosi is obviously quite beholden to Planned Parenthood and all things abortion-related. She’s got to pretend as if this whole undercover video thing that’s left Planned Parenthood exposed is a non-story and just a giant distraction. Breitbart reported:
At a press conference Thursday, House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Republicans’ talk of defunding Planned Parenthood is a “distraction” that will hold little weight with Americans because the organization has a “solid grounding of support with the American people.”
Democrats have been coming to the defense of the nation’s largest abortion provider following the release of gruesome and graphic videos depicting the organization’s top medical professionals discussing the sale of the body parts of aborted babies.
“Planned Parenthood administers to the needs of … two and a half million women,” she said. “A very small percentage of that relates to women having the right to choose. But it relates to their health.”
Pelosi said young women in college go to Planned Parenthood for breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer.
Asked by a reporter about whether Republicans will shut down the government over Planned Parenthood funding when the House recess is over, Pelosi responded, “[Republicans] started their majority by saying they want to shut down government instead of funding Planned Parenthood, so this is nothing new in their regard.”
“We probably were going to have a CR anyway, the question is what does it look like?” she continued. “And if they don’t have the Republican votes to pass it, then hopefully we can have some influence over what is in that CR.”
It might have a “grounding of support,” but I have a feeling that ground isn’t as solid as it used to be. These videos have tarnished Planned Parenthood’s previously squeaky-clean image.
But honestly, how much worse is what these videos have exposed compared to what everyone already knew they were doing on a daily basis? Yes, I know that they offer cancer screenings and STI testing and all that, but they are also the nation’s top abortion provider. They kill hundreds of thousands of unborn babies a year. That alone should outrage us enough to cut their federal funding completely
