In an interview with her pals over at MSNBC, Nancy Pelosi complained about the push for abortion bans in various state houses like in Texas and North Carolina as well as in the U.S. Congress. Any effort whatsoever to curtail abortion is bad for “women’s health.” After all, as you may recall, abortion is Pelosi’s “sacred ground.” You don’t mess with it.
The abortion “bans” that she refers to don’t actually ban abortions until after 20 weeks, and even then, there are exceptions. So, for the first 20 weeks of a woman’s pregnancy, she still has the “right” to murder her unwanted and unborn child. But, Pelosi seems to think that these small pro-life efforts indicate that the GOP wants to ban everything including contraceptives. She said that pro-life conservatives must need a lesson in women’s reproductive systems:
“What is at risk is the discretion of a woman to make judgments about the size and time, timing of her family. It’s respect for the judgment of women about what is good for them, for their families, their health, which is important to their families. The reality is that people in our country do practice birth control and use contraception. I don’t know if my colleagues need a lesson on the birds and the bees. I really don’t get it. This is women’s health, reproductive part of us is part of our health, and-and, especially young women. How can they say that we’re not going to be doing contraception or we’re not going to be doing family planning? And so people focus on the most extreme cases in terms of terminating a pregnancy.”
You hear liberals all the time say that they’re not pro-abortion. They want abortion to be safe, legal and rare. They’ll tell you that abortion is a big decision, and that it shouldn’t be taken lightly.
If “pro-choice” people really are all in favor of abortion being rare, then why have there been 54 million abortions over the past 40 years? On average, there have been about 1.2 million a year. That’s a lot to be considered “rare.” Or, is it just that these “pro-choice” people aren’t aware of what causes pregnancy?
Pro-lifers, especially Christians, know very well what causes pregnancy. This is why many of them have large families. If “pro-choicers” want to keep abortion rare, then they have to make pregnancies rare. If they want to make pregnancies rare, then they have to know what causes it in the first place and stop engaging in it. I think liberals are the ones that need a lesson in the birds and the bees.
