“People will tell you anything but what they do is always the truth.” – P.J. O’Rourke
Nothing sums up the Obama administration better than the above quote. We have been on the losing end of a stream of promises since Obama took office. I’ve lost track of the number of times Obama, and his acolytes have said one thing, only to have the opposite happen. Obamacare will save you money, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan, there isn’t a smidgen of corruption in the IRS, the attack in Benghazi was a spontaneous occurrence, there’s nothing we could have done, we’ve deported more illegals than any other administration. A simple list of Obama’s lies, and misdirections could fill a ten volume book set.
If the Obama administration has deported more illegals than any other administration, his motives regarding amnesty become a bit foggy. It’s believed by many conservatives, myself included, that Obama wants to amnesty illegal immigrants so that when they eventually obtain voting rights, they will keep the Democrats in control of the federal government. Looking at voting statistics, and human nature, one can conclude that amnestied illegals would overwhelmingly vote Democrat. This would lead to a massive power surge for the Party. But if that is Obama’s ultimate goal, why would he be so gung-ho about deportation?
Well, in this lies the misdirection. Deportation is actually divided into multiple categories. The main two are called “return,” and “removal.” “Removal” mostly consists of deporting illegals who are already in the states. “Return” refers to those who are caught trying to enter the United States, but are intercepted, and sent back. A majority of Obama admin deportations are “returns.” According to Anna O. Law, of the Washington Post:
“Compared to his predecessors, Obama has deemphasized removals and concentrated on returns. His numbers reflect a deliberate shift in strategy to exercise prosecutorial discretion to aid longtime immigrant residents who have family ties and no criminal backgrounds besides the immigration law violation. In recent years, two-thirds of Obama’s overall expulsion numbers consist of returns of people who have previous final orders of removal and who are recently arriving entrants.”
When one adds together the returns, and removals, Obama looks like a hard-nosed immigration hawk. However, his shift in deportation, focusing mostly on recent immigrants, or those attempting to enter illegally, covers up his main agenda. Obama is doing everything he can to make sure that the illegal immigrants, who are already here, stay here. Obama is not the hard-nosed law-man he wants everyone to think he is. He is directing our attention away from the truth.
In fact, according to the LA Times:
“Expulsions of people who are settled and working in the United States have fallen steadily since his [Obama’s] first year in office, and are down more than 40% since 2009.”
And now, it appears the administration is considering becoming even more lax. According to the Associated Press:
“Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson is weighing limiting deportations of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally who don’t have serious criminal records…The change, if adopted following an ongoing review ordered by President Barack Obama, could shield tens of thousands of immigrants now removed each year solely because they committed repeat immigration violations, such as re-entering the country illegally after having been deported, failing to comply with a deportation order or missing an immigration court date.”
So, next time you are in an argument with a liberal, and they make the claim that Obama has deported more illegal immigrants than anyone else, make them aware of the details, and thus, the truth. The Obama agenda still stands, and the truth lies in his actions, not his words.
