The way Obama is negotiating with Iran cannot lead to anything good.
“There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.” – Henry David Thoreau
There are two men—let’s call them Jack and Charlie. Jack has a gun, while Charlie is unarmed and incapable of purchasing or manufacturing a gun. Though Jack has a gun, he has no intention of using it on his counterpart; he simply keeps it for his own protection. Jack has absolutely no enmity toward Charlie. However, Charlie despises Jack. For Charlie, Jack is the enemy, and he must be eliminated. This hatred is well known to both parties because on multiple occasions, Charlie has said that above all else, he wants Jack dead.
One day, Charlie approaches Jack and asks if he may have the parts to construct a gun. Jack balks, asking Charlie to explain to him why he wants the parts necessary for the construction of a gun. Charlie responds, telling Jack that he simply wants the gun so that he may hunt for food.
Jack, obviously nervous about the prospect of Charlie possessing a gun—given his past threats—makes a concession, telling Charlie that he will help him build traps to catch animals so that he may have food to eat. Charlie is outraged, telling Jack that traps are not enough. He wants a gun.
After nervous deliberation, Jack finally concedes, but with one caveat: Charlie must only use the gun for hunting, and not for anything else. Charlie agrees.
Jack hands Charlie the gun. Charlie then loads the gun and shoots Jack in the head, killing him.
Was Jack a very smart guy? I would say that he was wildly naive at best, and purely stupid at worst.
As I’m sure you realize at this point, Jack is the United States, and Charlie is Iran. The United States and its allies have all the power. Iran claims that if we allow them to acquire nuclear material, it will only be used for peaceful purposes. This is, of course, completely unrelated to their violent hatred and absolute resolve to eliminate not only us, but our closest ally, and arguably Iran’s most deeply hated enemy, Israel.
According to The New York Post:
“Iran’s supreme leader rallied his country to endorse the ongoing nuclear negotiations with the US…’Sanctions must be lifted immediately,’ Khamenei told the crowd. When the congregation broke out with an impromptu ‘Death to America’ chant, Khamenei couldn’t help but chime in. ‘Of course, yes, death to America, because America is the original source of this pressure,’ he said.”
We are negotiating with a country whose leaders have repeatedly and openly called for the elimination of Israel and the United States. Iran is being treated as if they have equal moral weight on the world scale. We are giving Iran bullets as they press an empty gun against our temple, and hoping they’ll be nice.
Stephen King wrote that “the trust of the innocent is the liar’s most useful tool.” I would amend that slightly. The trust of the fool is the liar’s most useful tool.
We are negotiating the terms of our own destruction. And Obama’s signature will be on the death certificate.
