“A straw man…is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of an opponent’s argument. To be successful, a straw man argument requires that the audience be ignorant or uninformed of the original argument.” – Wikipedia
The straw man fallacy is one of the most popular fallacies used in the world of political argumentation. It’s just so easy to misrepresent someone’s argument in order to pull popular opinion to your side. Just as the Wikipedia definition states, to be successful, a straw man argument must be used on the ignorant. If someone is well informed, misrepresentation won’t work.
If you’re on this website, you already know this, but it bears repeating: the left misrepresents nearly every conservative argument in one way or another. Possibly the most egregiously misrepresented conservative position is illegal immigration. For conservatives, illegal immigration is not simply illegal, and often dangerous, but it is also an existential threat to the future of the United States. It doesn’t take much brain power to see what’s coming. The Democrats need amnesty in order to shift the voting demographic of this country. Once that is accomplished, a conservative will never again win a national election.
Once amnesty is set in motion, and the millions of illegal immigrants who already live here are given citizenship, it is only a matter of time before they are given voting rights. Any liberal worth their salt will deny that, but it’s the truth. Even mega-liberal Donna Brazille suggested as much when she said: “I don’t think you can create two classes of citizens in this society, one with legal status and the right to vote, and one without.” Once the amnestied have the right to vote, the demographic will have shifted. Many illegal immigrants are low-skill workers, who rely on government handouts to survive. Human nature dictates that someone who is on the receiving end of free stuff will never vote for someone who would take that away. Eventually, the takers will outnumber the contributors, and the country will collapse.
This is the end-game from the perspective of the left. They want to win national elections in perpetuity, based not on the merit of their policy, but on the vice of a takers’ nation. This plan is clear to those who can rise above the rhetoric, but many Americans are still putty in the hands of the left.
At a recent naturalization ceremony, Michelle Obama spoke to a group of newly minted Americans. She used the occasion to slyly push amnesty propaganda:
“It’s amazing that just a few feet from here where I’m standing are the signatures of the 56 Founders who put their names on a Declaration that changed the course of history…And like the 50 of you, none of them were born American – they became American…America needs you…Immigration is at the heart of how we developed as a nation…In every generation, immigrants have earned their place as part of ‘We the People.'”
With this speech, Michelle Obama is implying that opponents of illegal immigration are actually opponents of immigrants. It’s a well-worn straw man that says conservatives oppose amnesty not because of all the reasons I mentioned above, but because we hate brown people. We are xenophobic, racist, cruel people. Of course, that’s not remotely true, but as Goebbels famously said, if you tell a lie enough times, it will become the truth. The left is in a position of power because of their collusion with the media, and because of that, they have free reign to repeat lies on an extraordinary scale.
Let me set the record straight: Conservatives are not anti-immigrant, they are not racists, and they are smart enough to understand what’s coming if we grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, the straw man con works on a large portion of Americans because they are uninformed.
Amnesty will lead to voting rights, which will lead to perpetual Democrat victories, which will lead to deeper entitlement, which will lead to the collapse of this nation–unless we do something about it. November is coming up quickly, and soon after, 2016. Vote to end this insanity.
