Fights broke out in a Monroeville, Pennsylvania mall (part of the greater Pittsburgh area) with crowds of brawlers reaching as many as a thousand participants. No one was arrested, but mall businesses decided to close down to avoid any potential damage that might ensue from all the chaos. Police indicated that a few teenagers may face charges as they continue their investigation into what exactly happened that brought on all this mayhem. WPXI reported:
Channel 11 News has learned that police are using social media to help investigate a massive brawl at Monroeville Mall Friday night.
Reporter Brandon Hudson spoke to the Monroeville police chief Monday, who said several teenagers may face disorderly conduct and simple assault charges for their involvement.
The mayor, town manager, police chief and mall officials are also hoping to meet sometime this week to discuss mall security.
Officers from several municipalities were called to the mall Friday evening after the fight broke out.
Monroeville Police Chief K. Douglas Cole told Channel 11 News that there were about 1,000 children and teens in the mall when up to six different fights took place.
Cole said at least two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Numerous videos and photos of the fights began to circulate on social media later that night.
According to Cole, large groups of teens began showing up around 5 p.m., with the crowds swelling to as many as 1,000, according to mall security officers.
“We did see a lot of individuals that were not from the eastern area of the county, which is a little bit different,” said Cole. Cole said he doesn’t believe it was an organized event or protest. Employees said stores closed early after fights were reported around 8 p.m. Cole reported minor damage to the mall, including to kiosks. “We’re very happy with how the mall does security there. We want to just make it better,” said Cole.
Breitbart posted videos of some of the fights:
Curiously, this isn’t something that’s being discussed on the national media platform. The only time they care to mention anything is when a black person gets beat up or killed by a non-black person. So, if one of those rioters in this mall ended up dying at the hands of a some white person, regardless of whether or not it was self-defense, that would make the headlines. And it would also contribute to more rioting.
