An ad put out by a liberal group called Agenda Project Action Fund blames the GOP for the Ebola outbreak and the subsequent Ebola deaths.
If it hadn’t been for the GOP’s “shutting down the government” and enforcing “sequestration,” there wouldn’t be an Ebola problem today. It’s all because conservatives want to cut wasteful government spending that people have died from the Ebola virus. If the government had been able to spend as much money as possible in whatever way it wanted, it would be focusing all its efforts on combating the Ebola virus and finding ways to treat it effectively. They wouldn’t be spending money on studying why lesbians are fat or anything like that. That would be a silly waste. In fact, if only the government had been able to spend an endless supply of taxpayer money and newly created cash from the Fed, there perhaps would be no Ebola in the first place.
Here’s a list from the Heritage Foundation from a few years ago that included some other ways the government didn’t waste money:
Examples from multiple Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports of wasteful duplication include 342 economic development programs; 130 programs serving the disabled; 130 programs serving at-risk youth; 90 early childhood development programs; 75 programs funding international education, cultural, and training exchange activities; and 72 safe water programs.
The federal government made at least $72 billion in improper payments in 2008.
Washington spends $92 billion on corporate welfare (excluding TARP) versus $71 billion on homeland security.
Government auditors spent the past five years examining all federal programs and found that 22 percent of them — costing taxpayers a total of $123 billion annually — fail to show any positive impact on the populations they serve.
A GAO audit found that 95 Pentagon weapons systems suffered from a combined $295 billion in cost overruns.
Audits showed $34 billion worth of Department of Homeland Security contracts contained significant waste, fraud, and abuse.
That of course doesn’t mention the hundreds of wasteful big-ticket conferences every year that are so prevalent among all the federal departments, including the Defense Department, Health and Human Services, the IRS, the Justice Department, and the VA. And it doesn’t mention all the thousands of federal employees getting paid to look at child porn because they have “nothing else to do.” Or the trillions of taxpayer dollars that can just “vanish” from a department’s ledger and not raise any red flags with anyone.
Yeah, there’s no need to cut any spending from our wonderfully benevolent and financially sound government. Cutting even one penny means literally murdering millions of black people with Ebola.
