The Left is smitten with complex laws. They love to build all sorts of boundaries, so long as it inhibits Conservatives and the Constitution, and does not inhibit their lax social rules. The problem is that, while Liberals love to make laws, they seldom enforce those laws in any reasonable way. That’s possibly, and very probably, because of human error.
The Left always prattles on about gun control, as if that is the beginning and the end on violence. If guns were only restricted, we would be a violence-free society—just like before guns were invented. Laws equal less violence. However, the only gun control law that does anything to protect people is mental illness screening. That’s it. It is always the deranged that commit these mass-murders. Yet in spite of their mental deficiencies, they are allowed to purchase guns.
According to The Associated Press:
“U.S. law enforcement officials are telling The Associated Press that the Navy contractor identified as the gunman in the mass shootings at the Washington Navy Yard had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder. He also had been hearing voices in his head, the officials said. Aaron Alexis, 34, had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the criminal investigation in the case was continuing. The Navy had not declared him mentally unfit, which would have rescinded a security clearance that Alexis had from his earlier time in the Navy Reserves.”
Aaron Alexis was mentally unfit to own and carry a firearm, yet he was not only admitted to the Navy (mind-blowing), but allowed to carry a gun! Why is mental illness not a focus in the gun control debate? In every news program, all I continue to hear is that we need bans on assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, and everything else that does not actually pertain to the derangement of the shooters, but only to the weapons themselves. It’s as if Liberals really believe that it’s the weapons that are at fault, not the human pulling the trigger.
We have a host of people that should not be allowed to purchase guns due to their mental instability. Rather than prohibit law-abiding, mentally fit individuals from owning guns, why are we not entirely focused on mental illness as the key factor in mass-shootings? The solution is blindingly obvious.
I have a theory. First, gun control is a great media tool. It puts Liberal “compassion” in the spotlight. Second, Liberals want centralized, federally mandated gun laws. They want everything to be controlled by a central government body. By exploiting mass-shootings, they advance their agenda of a federally owned and operated country. Finally—and you may find this outrageous, but I don’t—I think the government wants a disarmed citizenry, so that if the people of the United States ever become so disillusioned by the government that they want to start a second revolution, they will not be armed well enough to do so. I believe that the Left is looking toward an angry future, and preparing for an uprising on the part of the people.
In the end, if we don’t enforce mental illness laws that are already on the books in some instances, nothing will change, even if every gun is restricted.
