Steven Pinker said:
“Semantics is about the relation of words to thoughts, but it also about the relation of words to other human concerns. Semantics is about the relation of words to reality – the way that speakers commit themselves to a shared understanding of the truth, and the way their thoughts are anchored to things and situations in the world.”
Democrats live in a world entirely based on semantic sleight of hand. Everything is one way for their enemies and another way for them. Abortion is choice, illegal aliens are undocumented citizens and wars are skirmishes. If a Conservative calls for war, they are a war monger, but if a Liberal calls for war, it is in the best interest of the American people.
Speaking in regard to the possible Syria strike, John Kerry said:
“…there are a lot of folks out there who are committed to violent acts against lots of different people. We have to defend ourselves…You ask the question, ‘Why does the United States have to be out there?’ You ever been to the cemetery in France? Ya know, above those beaches? Why’d those guys have to go do that?”
In the mind of John Kerry, taking military action in Syria is comparable to the invasion at Normandy. He is directly comparing war with Syria with World War II. He is putting the nobility of the destruction of Nazi Germany next to a convoluted, vanity strike on Syria.
Do you remember when George W. Bush wanted to move on Iraq? The Democrats balked. They called Bush a war monger, a liar, etc. With a Republican in charge, it was flat-out, bitter war. But so long as it is Obama, our savior at the helm, it’s a justifiable, meaningful and noble action. It’s professional semantics being played here.
Is it sheer blindness that causes Democrats to play these games, or is it calculated down to the line? This is the reason it is so difficult to debate a Liberal. They play semantic word games with you, never willing to give you a point. It’s like playing football, but the rules are constantly changing at the other team’s discretion. It’s often a losing battle.
When you have no anchor to facts or logic of any kind, you can always “win” arguments. While Conservatives are playing by the rules, the Left is floating in a world without gravity. Our war is good, yours is bad, because I said so. It’s absurd.
