Here we go again with another gun-grabbing politician who doesn’t really know anything about guns.
Automatic weapons are so heavily regulated that they might as well be banned. But she wasn’t really talking about actual automatic weapons. She’s referring to semi-automatic weapons and particularly the ones that look “scary,” like AR-15s. Semi-automatic handguns, even though they operate the same way, aren’t scary enough for politicians to call for their ban just yet, but just you wait. One step at a time.
It was during a CNN townhall meeting that Hillary Clinton made her comments about wanting to ban certain guns that are essentially banned already. According to Breitbart, a Maryland school teacher asked the former Secretary of State whether banning “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” magazines would be a good idea:
Hillary said, “Yes,” then expounded:
“First of all, I think as a teacher or really any parent, what’s been happening with these school shootings should cause everybody to just think hard. We make hard choices and we balance competing values all the time. And I was disappointed that the Congress did not pass universal background checks after the horrors of the shootings at Sandy Hook, and now we’ve had more in the time since. And I don’t think any parent–any person–should have to fear about their child going to school or going to college because someone, for whatever reason–psychological, emotional, political, [ideological], whatever it means–could possibly enter that school property with an automatic weapon and murder innocent children, students, teachers.”
Clinton went on to say, “We cannot let a minority of people… hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.”
“My view is, yes we need to thrash this out in the political realm. But the vast majority of Americans–even law-abiding gun owners–want background checks that work, information that is shared immediately, and an awareness that we’re going to have to do a better job protecting the vast majority of our citizens–including our children–from that very, very small group that is unfortunately prone to violence, and now with automatic weapons, can wreak so much more violence.”
Is she really that ignorant, or is she purposely redefining “automatic” weapons? If she associates semi-automatic weapons with the “scariest” type of guns possible, then that makes semi-autos that much “scarier.”
I don’t buy that she’s ignorant. If she didn’t know the difference between semi-automatics and fully automatics, then how was she able to make sure the terrorists operating in Libya and Syria got their fully automatic rifles (and RPG’s) during the Benghazi operation? AR-15s are child’s play compared to what the terrorists really needed to try to wreak as much havoc as possible in Syria against innocent civilians and Assad’s military. I know, I know, “What difference at this point does it make?” Well, it makes a difference. Either you don’t know basic gun terminology, in which case you have no business voicing an opinion on gun control; or you’re redefining the terms to advance an agenda.
