Liberals always blame these spikes in gun sales on the NRA. They either think that the gun lobby is behind all the mass murders we’ve seen in recent years, or they blame the gun lobby for “politicizing” such events, all so that people will buy their guns out of fear and make them loads of money. Because Democrats never politicize mass shootings. The Washington Free Beacon reported:
The FBI’s National Instant Background Check System processed 1,976,759 firearms related checks in October. That is a 373,290 increase in checks over last year and a new record for the month. It also makes October the sixth consecutive month to see a record number of checks.
Since every purchase of a new gun in the United States requires a background check the metric is considered a reliable proxy for how many overall gun sales there have been, even though the number does not represent a one to one calculation for gun sales. The federal government and most states do not require background checks on gun sales made between private parties. Additionally, some states request FBI background checks on their citizens who apply for gun carry permits.
So far in 2015 the FBI has performed 17,584,346 firearms related checks. Currently, 2015 is on pace to beat 2013’s record 21,09,273 checks.
In reality, the most affective thing to induce gun sales is to be in government and threaten to crack down on guns in some way. It doesn’t necessarily have to be threats of door-to-door confiscation. Threatening to do anything that could make it more difficult to obtain firearms is enough to put gun-owners on edge, and rightfully so.
We have politicians like Hillary Clinton who think that doing an Australian-style, national, mandatory gun buyback would be worth considering if she ever lands in the White House.
People like Piers Morgan were favorites of the left for being such gun control cheerleaders. He was always pointing to his home country and how they’ve eradicated “gun violence” by banning guns.
It’s no secret that that’s what liberals really want. But liberals know that they have to be somewhat smart about it. They don’t want an armed rebellion on their hands (well, maybe they do). So, they have to go about it in a gradual way. Convince everyone that all they want is universal background checks. After all, 107% of Americans are in favor of such a restriction, so it should be a no-brainer to get that law passed.
And no one needs ten bullets to kill a deer, so we should be able to limit magazines to seven rounds.
And semi-automatic rifles look really scary, and they’re completely unnecessary for deer hunting, so they should be banned outright.
But that’s it. They promise.
Yet they keep pointing to other “industrialized” nations like Australia, the UK, and countries in Europe and South America as models of gun control. No wonder people get freaked out and run to the guns and ammo store to stock up.
