FBI Report: Violent Crime Down, Despite Record Gun Sales

The FBI report didn’t say anything about gun sales, but its own stats show marked decrease in violent crime. Not only that, but they revealed that even as stigmatized as semi-automatic rifles are in the media and political arena, they don’t account for many murders, compared with things like clubs, hammers and fists. Actually, rifles don’t account for any murders, since they’re inanimate objects. What I meant was that people don’t use them as often as they do non-firearms.

The record gun sales came in 2013. If liberal gun controllers are to be believed, then all these extra guns floating around must necessarily lead to an increase in violent crime, particularly murder, and especially “gun murders.” But that didn’t happen. In fact, violent crime has been steadily declining over the past several years. Breitbart reported:

[A]t the beginning of this week, the FBI released numbers showing that murder fell by 0.5 percent compared to 2013, which is “a 3.2 percent decrease from the 2010 figure, and a 14.9 percent drop from the number in 2005.” Moreover, robberies “decreased 5.6 percent from the 2013 estimate and 11.7 percent from the 2010 estimate.” The figures for 2014 represent a “22.0 percent [decrease] from the 2005 estimate.”

 The Daily Caller added:

The FBI’s report for violent crime in 2014 revealed that only 248 people were killed from any form of rifle including rifles in the AR-15 platform.

In contrast, 3,827 people were killed from being stabbed or beaten to death. That means that you are 15.4 times more likely to die from a stabbing or beating than a rifle. Handguns accounted for the vast majority of firearms deaths.

The numbers also indicated that murder with all guns has been on a steady decline, and was at a new recent low in 2014, with 8,103 total firearm murders committed. That is a decline of 351 murders since 2013, and a decline of 1,096 from 2010.

Liberals’ fear of semi-automatic rifles is not based on anything but a desire to ban guns one step at a time. They figure they can scare people a lot more easily with evil, “scary-looking” rifles than they can with handguns. Once a sufficient number of people are scared by these rifles, politicians will move to ban them. Once they’re banned, they’ll go on to other styles of guns.
