West Virginia Ends Union Rule – Chooses Right to Work

The West Virginia Senate passed a measure Thursday to outlaw mandatory union dues and fees as a condition of employment. The Senate approved the bill with a 17 to 16 vote before sending it to the House of Delegates. The measure was introduced Jan. 13 on the first day of the 60-day legislative session. The policy has been a Republican priority since the party secured the legislature in November 2014. It is more commonly known as right-to-work. “I believe this is a critical first step toward Read more […]

Shocking Surprise: Minimum Wage Hikes Increase Unemployment

I know this will come as a real shock to our regular readers, but it turns out that increasing minimum wage doesn’t actually help the poor very much. It just increases the workload on fewer employees. In other words, it stimulates unemployment: The study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that minimum wage increases reduced employment opportunities for low-skilled workers by nearly 6 points during the Great Recession. “This period’s full set of minimum wage increases Read more […]

Unemployment is Unimportant Only if People are Merely Animals

As it turns out, the unemployment rates are awful in this country, especially for the black community. Leftists look at the stats and it doesn’t seem like they care that much. And I think I understand why. Leftists have a basically materialist perspective on human existence, which is heavily influenced by evolutionary anthropology and biological determinism. They believe that as long as you can survive, you shouldn’t care that much if your life counts for anything. According to leftists, the Read more […]

Group Advocating $15/hr Minimum Wage only Pays $12/hr!

An advocacy group out of Modesto, Calif. pushing for a $15 an hour minimum wage posted a job ad Thursday offering to pay $12 an hour. Below what it is demanding others pay their workers. The Craigslist post was for a job opening at the local Fight for $15 campaign. On the national level, the organization has spearheaded the push to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The post was signed by Steven Applebaum who lists his affiliation with the Modesto Fight for $15 campaign. “Do you make Read more […]

Social Skills Have Never Been More Important … or More Rare

Two trends have become clear recently which, in conjunction, should give us pause concerning the future of America. Trend one: robots are replacing human workers, and the only currently expanding market requires social skills: David Deming, an associate professor of education and economics at Harvard University, has found that jobs requiring social interaction are growing relative to work that doesn’t, and such skills may offer some protection from robotic takeover. Certain high-level professions Read more […]

Obama Fires Coal Workers and then Offers them Job Training

It was all a part of the plan from the beginning. Obama even admitted as much back in 2008 when he promised that energy costs were going to necessarily skyrocket. Here’s what he said: “So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what Read more […]

Don’t Believe the September Unemployment Rate

The best way to determine how deeply someone understands a political issue is to push them outside their talking points. Most people who claim to be politically active have a set of standard talking points to which they cling. This characteristic is not limited to Democrats. People don’t like to know more than they have to. This mentality, however, leads to ignorance. Case in point: Unemployment. The unemployment rate currently sits at 5.1 percent, which is considered pretty fantastic by anyone’s Read more […]

Why a $15 Minimum Wage Will Kill Small Businesses ‘For The Good of The People’

“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: there is never enough of anything to fully satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.” – Thomas Sowell My Facebook timeline regularly lights up with Bernie Sanders memes, many of which are positive in their depiction of the Socialist Senator. But what few people understand is that there is no free lunch. Money doesn’t come from the earth or the sky, it comes from work. I know most Democrats Read more […]

Seattle’s Minimum Wage Cost City 1,000 Restaurant Jobs in One Month

What was it that we kept saying would happen if we were to enact a high minimum wage? Prices would necessarily rise, business would go down as a result, and people would lose their jobs. We can look at Seattle as sort of a test case of what happens when the government decides that private businesses have to pay a certain amount to their employees. When the government gets involved in wage controls, bad things happen. And it was all predictable. In June of last year, the city of Seattle decided Read more […]

Bernie Sanders Campaigns on $15/Hour Minimum Wage; Pays His Interns $12/Hour

Bernie Sanders wants to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, but he sees fit to pay his interns only $12 an hour. You might say, “$15, $12, what’s the difference?” Well, $3 to be exact. In a press release, Sanders stated: “It is a national disgrace that millions of full-time workers are living in poverty and millions more are forced to work two or three jobs just to pay their bills,” Sanders said at the outdoor rally near the Capitol. “In the year 2015, a job must lift workers Read more […]

Labor Participation Rate Lowest Since 1977

Predictably, the BLS highlights the unemployment figure, which has apparently dropped to 5.3%, compared to May’s 5.5%. What they don’t usually mention is the drop in the labor force. Last month, the labor force participation rate was down to 62.6%, the lowest we’ve seen since 1977. CNS News reported: A record 93,626,000 Americans 16 or older did not participate in the nation’s labor force in June, as the labor force participation rate dropped to 62.6 percent, a 38-year low, according to Read more […]

$15 Minimum Wage Group Wants to Pay Employees $12.25

In their defense, they said they’d start out paying $12.25, and after 90 days, they’d raise the pay to $15. But still. You’ve got to admit this is a little ironic. A group that’s affiliated with one of the largest unions in the country (AFL-CIO), who campaigns for a $15-per-hour minimum wage, needs to hire someone, and they’re paying only $12.25 an hour. The job posting was a Facebook advertisement and was seen by Cody McLaughlin who happens to work at a Portland PR firm. He responded Read more […]
