The Cost of Conservative Incrementalism: The Foredoomed Bill that Repeals ObamaCare and Defunds Planned Parenthood

The House just passed a bill that would repeal ObamaCare and defund Planned Parenthood. Don’t rejoice just yet because it means almost nothing. Yes, there is basically no way it will actually accomplish anything at all: Congress sent an ObamaCare repeal bill to the president’s desk for the first time on Wednesday, marking an election-year victory of sorts for Republicans who have tried since 2010 to scrap the law. The bill repealing most of President Obama’s signature health care law was Read more […]

Paul Ryan’s Gargantuan Spending Bill Shows that Lobbyists Run Washington

This is how they get things done in Washington. Lobbyists basically write legislation giving their respective special interests massive financial benefits, and they get legislators to sign on by telling them that there’s no time to debate it or even read it. It’s an emergency. “If you don’t vote for this bill, then you’ll be responsible for shutting down the government.” Paul Ryan may as well have echoed Nancy Pelosi when she said that they had to pass the bill to find out what was in Read more […]

Introducing Paul Ryan Boehner the Second

Paul Ryan is our new John Boehner. He just proved that by overseeing the latest $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill which gained widespread bipartisan support and flew through both houses of Congress. Ryan might actually be worse than Boehner. People knew Boehner was a rat traitor. They don’t know that about Ryan yet, so he was able to father this monstrosity of a spending bill largely uncontested. Here’s hoping he won’t remain uncontested. Republicans have a majority in the House and Read more […]

Pew Survey: The Feds and the Media Have Most Negative Impact on America

Of all the things that have a negative impact on the United States, from terrorists to criminals to drugs to whatever, the top two things Americans claim have the most negative impact on America are the federal government (if you include Congress) and the media: An extensive new Pew Research Center survey finds that 65 percent believe that the news media “has a negative effect on the way things are going in the country.” Some 56 percent said the entertainment industry has a negative effect. Thank You for Leaving, John Boehner

According to Breitbart, anonymous sources tell them that outgoing Speaker of the House John Boehner (feels good to write that) allegedly “struck a deal” with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi that would help the Democrats pass the budget, fund Planned Parenthood, and avoid a shutdown. Breitbart reports: “Boehner reportedly knew that cutting such a deal to avoid a shutdown would result in a brutal battle with conservatives in his own party. He felt he could win challenges to his leadership mounted Read more […]

Media Silent on Planned Parenthood Videos in Their Reporting of Defunding Bill

As we reported yesterday, the House voted to remove federal funding from Planned Parenthood for a year while the organization is investigated for crimes. Unfortunately, the Senate will probably make sure the bill is aborted. But strangely absent in the media’s coverage of the House’s vote was the very catalyst that made this vote possible. The main reason our nation is having a discussion at all over Planned Parenthood funding is the slew of undercover videos that have been released over the Read more […]

House Votes to Freeze Planned Parenthood Funding for a Year

In what will probably amount to nothing more than a political statement, the House of Representatives voted to freeze federal funding to Planned Parenthood: In a 241-187 vote, nearly all Republicans and two Democrats approved legislation that would block Planned Parenthood’s federal funding for one year, giving time for Congress to fully investigate claims of wrongdoing by the provider. Lawmakers also passed a bill tightening restrictions on abortion doctors who violate infant protections in Read more […]

Dem Rep Opposes Bill Protecting Abortion-Surviving Babies, Because it “May Kill Children”

These people don’t appreciate their own irony. I just reported the other day about Representative DeLauro who opposed a pro-life bill that would remove federal funding from Planned Parenthood. She said that forcing Planned Parenthood to raise their own money instead of relying on the taxpayers would be like telling Americans, “Forget your health; you can just die.” As if abortion hasn’t killed tens of million of people already. New York Representative Jarrold Nadler is opposing the Born-Alive Read more […]

Hank Johnson Calls Planned Parenthood Hearing a “Show Trial”; Admits he Hasn’t Even Seen the Videos

Every time I see Hank Johnson’s name in the news, I can’t help but think of that moment that propelled him into political stardom:  when he said he was afraid that if there were too many troops stationed on Guam, that the island itself might capsize. He later claimed he was joking. Even if he were, it was too late. The damage had been done. No matter what he’s done or said since then that might be considered good, the only thing people will remember about him is his concern about Guam capsizing. Read more […]

The Lobbying Problem and How We Can Fix It

We have a lobbying problem in Congress. Beginning in the early 2000s, the amount of money being spent to lobby Congress exceeded the amount of money taxpayers were spending to fund Congress: Corporations now spend about $2.6 billion a year on reported lobbying expenditures – more than the $2 billion we spend to fund the House ($1.18 billion) and Senate ($860 million). It’s a gap that has been widening since corporate lobbying began to regularly exceed the combined House-Senate budget in the Read more […]

Are Senate Republicans Intentionally Delaying Loretta Lynch Confirmation Over Race?

Since everything in America has to come back to race, Democrats are accusing Senate Republicans of intentionally delaying the confirmation of Attorney General nominee Loretta Lynch because she is black. In the allusive words of Senator Dick Durbin (D., IL), Republicans are putting Loretta Lynch “on the back of the bus”: “Loretta Lynch, the first African-American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar,” Durbin said. John Kerry Slams Tom Cotton In The Stupidest Way Possible

When asked on Face The Nation if he would apologize for Senator Tom Cotton’s letter to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Secretary of State John Kerry replied: “Not on your life. I’m not going to apologize for unconstitutional, un-thought out action by somebody who has been in the United States Senate for 60-some days. That’s just inappropriate. I will explain very clearly that congress does not have the right to change an executive agreement.” In under fifty words, John Kerry made four very critical Read more […]
