Boehner Survives Speaker Challenge, and Exacts Revenge

If we had any question at all about whether the new GOP majority would result in a change to business as usual, we have our answer in no uncertain terms: NO! No, the GOP, led again by John Boehner, will continue its middling, compromising, petty, self-serving policies and punish true conservatives.

Want evidence? Fine. John Boehner won re-election as House Speaker as a reward yet again for licking the mud off of Obama’s boots. And then, with the apparent support of all his GOP cronies, he punished the few true conservatives who dared to challenge his leadership:

The removal of Florida Reps. Daniel Webster and Richard Nugent from Rules was meant as a clear demonstration that what Boehner and other party leaders accepted during the previous Congress is no longer acceptable, not with the House’s biggest GOP majority in decades.

The reason for demoting the two Florida Republicans was simple: Webster ran against Boehner for speaker . . . Nugent supported his fellow Floridian in the quixotic endeavor, which garnered the support of 12 lawmakers. . . .

With Webster openly offering himself as an alternative to Boehner, the GOP leadership thought seats on the Rules Committee were a plum that the pair no longer deserved. It didn’t take more than a few hours for Webster — a legendary former Florida statehouse speaker and state Senate majority leader — and Nugent to find themselves on the outside of a power structure they were once very much a part of.

This is not just a punishment for those few conservatives who dared to stand against Boehner. It is also a warning to any who might choose to stand against Boehner in the future. And given the sycophantic cowards who compose the GOP majority, I imagine that is that.

When will we learn anything people? We’ve been on this mad GOP/DNC two-party see saw for quite long enough to realize that the parties are just two sides of the same coin. They don’t care about doing their job (i.e., serve the people by upholding the Constitution). All they care about is staying in power. Honestly, what is it going to take for us to get all the way fed up?
