From the time of the Revolutionary War to today, more than 1.3 million men and women have died fighting for and preserved the right to vote for American citizens. Additionally, more than 1.5 million men and women have been wounded fighting for the right to vote. These men and women sacrificed themselves and their bodies for one of the most sacred rights of citizenship. Some of them were my relatives.
Millions more Americans fought for the right to vote and escaped injury. My dad, who just passed away last week, served 6 years in the US Navy, before, during and after World War II. His brother also served in the Navy during World War II. My wife’s brother served in the Air Force during the Korean War and my older brother also served in the Air Force in Vietnam. They all fought to preserve our right to vote.
If a New York Democrat gets his way, the 2.8 million Americans died and were wounded in vain. State Senator Gustavo Rivera wants to allow illegals to vote in all state and local elections. Last week, Rivera introduced a bill to give illegals the right to vote.
Rivera claims that not allowing them to vote is an injustice to the 3 million illegals living in New York. In an interview, he stated:
“Nearly 3 million people in the state of New York currently reside here and make New York their home, but can’t fully participate in civic, political, and economic life.”
Referring to the refusal of Republicans to act on Obama’s immigration reform, Rivera said:
“With failure at the national level on comprehensive immigration reform, the question we have asked is what can states do?”
Why would any law abiding American citizen want to grant rights and privileges to people who are breaking federal law by being here ILLEGALLY? I’m certain that when Rivera was sworn in as a New York state senator that he swore to uphold the laws and constitution of New York and the United States. Now he wants to trample those laws by granting the right to vote to 3 million illegals. This is a typical Democratic ploy to make voter fraud legal. His actions should warrant his removal from office for aiding and abetting illegal activity.
Personally, I take this as an affront and insult. From prior conversations with family members and friends who served in our military, granting citizenship and the right to vote to illegals is wrong and against everything they fought for. My dad once told me that he didn’t risk his life so that someone can break federal immigration laws, steal jobs and medical care from American citizens and then be granted the rights of American citizens. My dad was a life-long Democrat until Barack Obama and his liberal ways.
Instead of rewarding illegals with the right to vote, they should all be rounded up and shipped back to their countries of origin. Then we should bill those countries for all of the expenses incurred in the arrest, detention and deportation of the illegals. Perhaps that would spur these nations to take action to secure their side of the border.
Then I would bring all of our troops back from Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan and deploy them along our border with Mexico. I would provide them the necessary equipment to detect any movement across the border, day or night, above or below ground and then give them the order to stop all illegals crossing with whatever measure of force necessary. America needs to protect our own borders before we go half way around the world to protect the borders of others countries.
