On Jay Leno, the President tried to give the impression that it was all about “gay rights”:
“Obama told Leno that he was disappointed in Russian officials’ decision to grant temporary asylum to Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who leaked U.S. secrets. Nor did he bite his tongue when asked about Russia’s crackdown on its gay community with a new law banning ‘propaganda’ regarding ‘nontraditional sexual relations.’ ‘I’ve been very clear that when … you are discriminating on the basis of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation, you are violating the basic morality that I think should transcend every country,’ Obama said, according to a transcript of the Tuesday night interview. ‘And I have no patience for countries that try to treat gays or lesbians or transgender persons in ways that intimidate them or are harmful to them.’”
Of course, this was a pre-recorded interview, so there was nothing Leno could do to contradict the President. I don’t know Leno’s politics, but I can’t help but imagine a gleeful smirk might have crossed his face if he had Obama on live television and asked, “So that’s why you’ve been distancing the US from the King of Saudi Arabia and the government of Qatar? Because they don’t just do prison; the kill gays over there.”
Yes, you remember how Obama has shown he has no tolerance for executing homosexuals in Saudi Arabia.
Yeah, he’s really outraged.
(Yes, I know the White House denies he bowed. Fine. I’m just having a bit of fun. The fact remains that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are close allies and Syria is being overrun by US-sponsored terrorists.)
Obama has been making pals with all kinds of people who do far worse than the Russians to homosexuals. The only difference is that jihadists often treat Christians much the same way. Russia, on the other hand, with all its problems (and I’m sure they are many) supports and defends Christianity. I wish Protestants had an easier time there, but Putin is still more likely to defend Christian ideals than President Obama ever will.
Columnist, Justin Raimondo has linked to several accusations made by Obamaites against Putin for his decision to grant protection to Edward Snowden. But Putin’s motives are obvious: the Russian people love Snowden. Why should Putin damage his support in his own country for the sake of Obama?
Yet somehow that is exactly what Obama expects. And it is not just Obama’s personal ego. The entire Beltway ruling class is gnashing their teeth because their will has been defied. Notice how quickly everyone has turned their back on the promised “reset” of relations with Russia. It is now better to “get back” at Putin than to try to make progress with him toward the goal of a safer world.
That tells you all you need to know about the priorities of our ruling class.
Obama hates Russia because Snowden is there. That is all.
