Military Will Prosecute Christians For Sharing Their Faith

Luke, chapter 6, verse 22 reads: “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the son of man.” Going all the way back to biblical times, Christians have suffered under continuous persecution. That is simply a way of life. Even today, in many countries around the world, Christians must practice their faith under cover, and in secret, for fear of government persecution. There are even countries–specifically in the Middle East–where Christianity is punishable by death.

As Americans, we have always had the benefit of living in a country that promotes freedom of religion. We are allowed to practice faith freely, in almost any way we choose to do so. With the aggressive advancement of Secularism, we had to know that the time was fast approaching when even Americans weren’t safe from government persecution. That time has begun.

According to breitbart.com:

“President Barack Obama’s civilian appointees who lead the Pentagon are confirming that the military will make it a crime–possibly resulting in imprisonment–for those in uniform to share their faith…This regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military, as it would not allow chaplains (or any service members, for that matter), to say anything about their faith that others say led them to think they were being encouraged to make faith part of their life.”

I wrote several days ago that the Pentagon had consulted anti-Christian activist Mikey Weinstein in regard to the development of military tolerance policy. I said that if the Pentagon was consulting Weinstein, they must be moving in a dangerous direction. Now, days later, we have evidence. The government will now actively prosecute those in the military who decide to share their faith. This is huge.

If the United States government can prosecute those in the military for sharing their faith, what could be the next step? Being that the military is a government run agency, could faith soon be excluded from every government agency? We are on the precipice of the slippery slope. Under the purview of Barack Obama, are we to expect further discrimination? I think the answer is a resounding yes.

The idea behind the policy is allegedly to protect secular service members from feeling intimidated or threatened by religious proselytizing. To that end, I have several questions:

1. Is a friendly conversation about faith and religion so threatening that we must prosecute? Is it so scary to have someone honestly speak about their faith in God that they must be legally punished for it?

2. If so, what exactly is the threat? Clearly, it is not a physical threat, but supposedly a mental one; comparable–according to Weinstein–to rape. If this threat is mental; where does it end? Where is the line drawn? It looks like it will be up to Mikey Weinstein to decide.

3. Does this ban include all faiths, or only Judeo-Christian based faiths? Because, it seems, in the eyes of Mikey Weinstein, that Christianity is the most dangerous. If he has a large part in crafting this policy–and it seems as though he does–Christianity will be targeted above all other faiths.

4. Finally, does this ban effect all talk of faith, or simply proselytizing? Can God be mentioned even in passing? Again, where is the line in the sand?–oops, sorry; that’s a biblical reference.

All persecution begins in small places. First, a targeted group is mocked by the entertainment industry, and the media. Second, they are prosecuted legally. Third, they are ostracized and publicly shamed. Finally, they are executed.

This may seem extreme, especially in a country like the United States; but the growth of persecution is a slow one, taking years, and decades to evolve. The picture I painted used broad strokes. There are many small, subtle steps in between. However, with this new military policy, we are deeper in the mud than we have ever been. How long it will take us to reach the end point is unclear; but we will get there in time.

Many people will go about their lives unaware of this policy because the media is complicit in the Secularist agenda. Just like Conrad Black said: “Perhaps the gravest under-publicized atrocity in the world is the persecution of Christians.”

Help spread the word about this atrocity.

Go on your internet to jackvanimpeministries and watch both programs, April 14, and April 21. He is talking about the four horsemen in Revelation. If you don’t like Jack yu will still find these programs very interesting.

Evermyrtle it’s not that I like or dislike one preacher or another. In fact, I enjoy watching faith healers fleece their flock. i just don’t believe in fairytails.

BobE Evermyrtle Isn’t it somewhat ignorant when a person judges everyone else by his own experience (or lack of) ?  If you have never been touched by the Spirit of God – you actually have nothing to say and no basis to judge.  People love to tell Christians not to judge.  Use a mirror!  Ever heard of the saying, “walk a mile in my shoes”?  If you would open yourself up to God to see what He is offering you, you might be blown away by His kindness, mercy and forgiveness!

        • BobE

ttelkman BobE Evermyrtle God’s kindness??? Open up a bible my friend, god is a killing machine that quenches his thirst with human blood
          and laughs at our misery.

BobE ttelkman Evermyrtle We’ll pray for you!  You sorely need God’s grace and love! Somewhere along the way you have been given a very twisted Satanic view of God’s love!  Question for you….Do you believe in anything outside of your own Berkly views?

        • BobE

TexasFred BobE ttelkman Evermyrtle If prayer actually worked I wonder why god won’t heal amputees?

        • freemind

Bobbie- what happened? did you get your middle finger amputated? Wonder why He doesn’t destroy blasphemers & satanists so they can’t infect anyone with their poison?!! The answer is because it’s a test of your morality, if you have charity & love for your fellowman, or if you are not worthy to live in the Kingdom of Heaven with Him. To most of you young ones, you really are hardened and lost and that’s a shame. There is always a way back to your God though so you might be ok in the end, BUT you have to do the work & have your own faith…nobody else can for you, isn’t that right? Peace.

        • TexasFred

BobE TexasFred ttelkman Evermyrtle You are really a dumb, blind ignorant person! You surely have been raised in an Atheist convent high in the Arabic mountains! But wait!  In your last sentence you have just acknowledged the existence of God!  I served with an disbelieving self proclaimed self centered know-it-all like you in combat! You’ll never guess who started calling ‘OH MY GOD’ when the AK-47’s started blazing! But guess what! God heard him and his somewhat worthless bag of bones was spared! Hummmm!  Praise the Lord!

        • PaulLeslie

BobE TexasFred ttelkman Evermyrtle So, so predictable.  You’ve done a good job of memorizing the left’s script.
It seems your “faith” isn’t in true science, but the so-called science of the left pressed into service to defend their unbelief and hostility to God.

        • USMC69 75

I’m arrogant?  Your the one showing your intelligence (or lack there of) not to mention your ignorance! Between your posts and avatar, says all I need to know about your character! Not judging, just observing. A person says a lot, without saying anything. You Bob E haven’t really said anything yet, just a lot of hot air, with nothing to back it but stupid! Abraham Lincoln, who was paraphrasing Proverbs 17:28, which says,
“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that
shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”

      • Reese22

Benny Hinn is not a real Christian.  He is a faker trying to make money off of stupid people.  http://www.allaboutgod.com/, http://www.answersingenesis.com/, http://www.icr.com/,  Jesus warned that there would be many false teachers who come in My name and teach lies.  You judge them by the Scriptures of the Bible and you can figure out who is real and who is false.  http://www.josephprince.org/ is real.  John Hagee is real.  The Christian Worship Hour is real.  David Jeremiah is real.  Benny Hinn and most of the other TV preachers are false.

        • BobE

Reese22 If every “christian” that other christians claimed wasn’t a “real christian” were to disappear, there wouldn’t be any christians!

  • BobE

When christians try to force their beliefs onto others it’s called “evangelization”. When atheists do it, it’s called “militant atheism”. When will christians understand that in this country you CANNOT use taxpayer funds to promote your religion?

    • ttelkman

BobE There may be some”Christians” who are zealous about what they believe, but Force?  Is this in the same vein as Muslims who threaten to (and actually do) kill anyone who won’t convert to Islam?  Christians are generally interested in offering to others the same mercy and forgiveness that God has offered them.  That is why it is called Good News.  They have experienced God’s love, having escaped his wrath because of the sacrificial death of Jesus on a cross.  If you “hate” Christians, there must be some abuse in your past that has colored your thinking.

      • BobE

ttelkman BobE I don’t hate christians. Religions
like Christianity are abusive insofar as they encourage people to feel
inadequate, worthless, dependent, and deserving of harsh punishment. Such
religions are abusive insofar as they teach people to accept the existence of a
god which, if human, would have long ago been shut away in prison for all his
        immoral and violent behavior

        • ttelkman

BobE ttelkman As I said, for you to have that strong a reaction to Christianity, you have been wounded.  And your perspective is heavily colored by your bitterness and resentment.  You can’t know Jesus and say those things.  For you to have that strong a dislike for God Himself, means that you have placed your own expectations on Him, rather than seeking to know Him on His terms.  By definition, He created us and He makes the rules, not the other way around.  It just so happens this God who disturbs you so much became a man (Jesus) and died an excruciating death to remove your guilt – so that He could remove any wall separating you and Himself, so that there could be a personal relationship between you.  The creator loves His creation, and is even now pursuing you with His love.  “But God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

        • BobE

ttelkman BobE I have not been wounded. I just don’t believe in fairytails. No one (besides little kids) believes in Santa Claus. No one outside the Mormon
church believes Joseph Smith’s story. No one outside the Muslim faith believes
the story of Mohammed and Gabriel and the winged horse. No one outside the
Christian faith believes in Jesus’ divinity, miracles, resurrection, etc. Therefore, the question I would ask you to consider right now is simple: Why
is it that human beings can detect fairy tales with complete certainty when
those fairy tales come from other faiths, but they cannot detect the fairy tales
that underpin their own faith? Why do they believe their chosen fairy tale with
unrelenting passion and reject the others as nonsense?

        • politicalchick

BobE PaulLeslie Well Bob, I guess tearing babies apart and butchering them, is ok with you?  Well, Bob, I don’t like my tax dollars being used to butcher babies, because a woman is irresponsible.  Don’t ask tax payers to pay for that!.

        • BobE

politicalchick BobE PaulLeslie I do support a woman’s right to choose.  we don’t get to choose what we want our tax $$ to pay for or not pay for but we do have a constitution that gives woman that right. Just for your info I don’t like my tax $ supporting religion & hope the day comes soon that we tax the church.

        • PaulLeslie

BobE PaulLeslie Wrong again.  Show me the “right” in the Constitution.  While you’re at it show me the “due process” as it relates to the baby.  The 14th amend. says NOTHING about abortion.  The authority isn’t the Constitution – it’s liberal justices who decided to legislate from the bench.
Besides, you’re answer was a complete dodge to my issue – taxpayer money being taken by force and used to kill babies.  It’s certainly not Constitutional, and it’s certainly not American – it’s godless marxism.

        • BobE

PaulLeslie BobE we have a number of rights that aren’t specifically mentioned in the constitution. when the supreme court says something is constitutional it’s constitutional.

      • BobE

politicalchick BobE what’s funny is how backwards you people really are. Liberals are not trying to control your life & we couldn’t give a shit if you believe in santa claus, the easter bunny, tooth fairy, jesus, allah, thor or anything else. Just don’t try & teach your beliefs in public schools or use tax $ to promote them. If you don’t like gay marriage don’t marry a gay person but WTF gives you the right because you don’t like something than nobody else can have or do it?

        • PaulLeslie

BobE politicalchick “Liberals are not trying to control you life”
As I said previously: Hate has it’s own irrationality. We’re seeing it.

        • wordwiz54

BobEpoliticalchickbut WTF gives you the right because you don’t like something than nobody else can have or do it? Where do you draw the line. I bet pedophiles completely enjoy their chosen perversion, too. So do serial killers, I imagine. Why should we stop with just accepting homosexuality? Why not pedophilia? Why should we stop with just allowing abortion? Why not murder based on age at the other end of the spectrum? Why don’t we murder everyone who just isn’t as smart as you? Why don’t we start with Down’s Syndrome people and work our way up the IQ scale? Dostoevsky has it right — Keep moving the line between right and wrong and soon enough there will be no wrong.

        • BobE

wordwiz54 BobE politicalchick You obviously aren’t bright enough to see the flaw in your analogy so I’ll point it out to you. (A) we have laws against pedophiles, serial killers & murder. (B) Homsexually & abortion are LEGAL! A better analogy would be legal porn. You may not like porn but you do not have the right to say because you don’t like it that nobody else can look at it nor are you the one that gets to decide what is right or wrong.

        • wordwiz54

BobE wordwiz54 politicalchick You are not bright enough to GET the point — abortion and (in most places) sodomy USED to be illegal until you all saw fit to move the line. Keep on and when they legalize murder based on IQ and fitness for life, I’ll be gunning for the likes of you.

        • BobE

wordwiz54 BobE politicalchick interracial marriage, woman voting, etc use to be illegal too. BTW, it wasn’t me that saw fit to move the lines it was our supreme court. If they ever legalize murder based upon IQ & they start from the top down I’d be worried but my guess is if they ever do it will be from the bottom up in which case if I had an IQ as low as yours I’d find a deeper hole to live in that the one you already have.

Isn’t that one of the reasons why the British left England – religious freedoms?  And now has America gone the full turn for the military to prosecute christians?  But the military now condone gay behavior and atheism – and atheists are called in by the Pentagon to consult on tolerance policies??  What is the world coming to??

      • PaulLeslie

politicalchick PaulLeslie True, but the big difference is that repub. progressives haven’t captured their party.  The dem party however has been taken over by the progressives and have, as a party, rejected the Constitution, the Declaration, and have set out on an agenda to subvert our form of gov’t, and consequently our liberty.

        • politicalchick

PaulLeslie politicalchick Very good point, but how long do you think that would take.  We need more small government, and candidates that support the Constitution.

        • PaulLeslie

politicalchick PaulLeslie I think we’ve gone beyond the tipping point with the re-election of an un-American, anti-American marxist – and the progressive democrat party that is motivated by it’s agenda to subvert the Constitution and individual liberty.  They’ve been working at it for a century – ever since Woodrow Wilson announced his goal of creating the administrative state.  We have that now.

Wow, now our troops can’t even use thier faith anymore? The liberal, socialist agenda of this administration is out of contrrol I never thought I would see this happen in America. This country was built on Christianity.  The war on Christianity is in full force.

    • BobE

politicalchick This country was not built on christianity & a “war on christianity” is absurd.

      • Reese22

This country was founded by Puritans who fled the persecution of the King of England who was working with the “Church” of England.  A deadly combination.  The King and the “Church” were burning Christians alive, drawing and quartering them, persecuting them, and killing them if they were caught reading a Bible. The “Church” made a law that only church leaders could read the Bible. The Puritans, at great discomfort and risk, left England and came to America and started the new nation. The Mayflower Compact and later the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were written to allow the Judeo-Christians who started this nation to worship freely and read the Bible.  There is a war on Judeo-Christianity by the Obama Administration and “liberal progressives” who are not liberal or progressive but are reverting to old failed Communism and Islamic Supremacism.  http://www.frontpagemag.com

        • BobE

Reese22 Reese, were you home schooled or something? You may wanna buy a history book & read the story of who & why our country was founded

        • BobE

Reese22 the Pilgrims as an example of our nation’s Christian founding is sheer
ignorance! The Pilgrims weren’t the ones who crafted the
Constitution that governs our nation! They weren’t the ones who rebelled against
England. The Pilgrims fled from horrible religious persecution in England only
to practice the SAME HORRIBLE RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION here, The “religious freedom” so often spoken
of in regards to the pilgrims was espoused by them only when they were the
victims. It was not based on any principle of fairness– it was a belief born of
weakness, to be fogotten in their moment of power. Christian Colonists branded
non-christians on the forehead with red-hot irons, bore them through their
tongues, confiscated their property and threw them in jail, hanged them and
burned them at the stake– THAT is what happens when Christians have their way!

  • http://www.bibleversusconstitution.org/ TedRWeiland

Perhaps Christians will wake up now to the fact that they shouldn’t be employed by the imperialistic, military-industrial complex to do the murdering of the international bankers in the first place.
Before someone accuses me of being a pacifist. I believe self-defense and protection of our families (and our neighbors) is not a right but a God-expected responsibility:
“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household [including spiritual and physical protection], he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. ” (1 Timothy 5:8)
I also believe warfare is biblical, provided it’s biblical.

    • DavidHodges

And let’s not forget what Jesus said would happen if His kingdom were of this world–that his servants would start fighting for Him instead of the imperialistic, military-industrial complex.

Secondly Obama did not get us out of Iraq, Bush signed the SOFA agreement that Obama followed. Presently the recession has been postponed, the method used guarantees it will revisit and hit us far harder when it does.
As far as Osama, a Seal Team killed him if you believe what they told you, that is the only point you boy has and not a very substantial one to boot. Terrorism still exists, Innocent men, women and children are still being killed in the Middle East creating new terrorists. So I am not sure why you even bring that up. Your Nobel peace Prize Winner puts troops in harms way bombing and killing people overseas just like the Previous Admin. The only difference is your Boy has killed an American Citizen adult and an American citizen 16 year old child with drones, a first on both accounts. Not a first thing to be proud of.

Just to know I’m a Christian, even under fire from all the rest, gives me great hope! The greatest gift of life is to know that we have a Savior & Redeemer! It’s not easy to take the idiotic, filthy crap that these people put out, but we have to realize that it comes from Satan and that will never end….until our Lord ends it! So I hope we don’t have to go to the wire with this, ending up with Americans being persecuted & jailed or death, but if it does then I pray the Lord to forgive me cause I’m gonna fight to the end!!!

  • marmo

if my son were to serve in the military  I would want a Christian fighting beside him.. to pray with him for God’s protection. you have to remember Obama is not a Christian, he is clearly of the muslim faith. he thinks muslims will go to heaven and he has not read the Bible and doesn’t have a clue what will happen in the last days and perhaps even at his own hand.  God in His infinite wisdom, the only one who knows the beginning and the end, will either let it continue or put a stop to it all.  Remember, in the old testament when the jewish people wanted a king…saul was chosen. He wasn’t Gods choice, but he let the people have their way and it turned out to be a destructive thing.  I have to think of this, since Obama was chosen to be the president.  it has been a destructive thing!!! Pray, pray, pray.  Jesus is coming soon…

Weinstein- “God is dead”.   God:  ” Weinstein is dead”.
Weinstein is right about one thing… Christianity is the most dangerous religion!  Dangerous to Satan, sin, and government control. That is why ALL communist , socialist countries ban it, because you can’t control a Bible believing, and Jesus Christ loving mind and heart.  America has fallen to hell with people like this running the country .  All people of faith should rise up and throw these people out.   So homos and gays and sodomites can spread their ‘ religion’ freely and pervert our children with their destructive religion openly?    This is a declaration of war on Christians and should be met with equal force… pray desperately against these devil controlled pawns

Relax the DOD is not planning on court marshalling people who discuss their faith. The rule applies only to Officers and NCO’s who have troops under their command who order their troops to accept a belief they hold dear themselves. If for example Major Hassan at Ft Hood had ordered his subordinates to become Muslims, that would have been a problem. If any officer regardless of religious affiliation dictates what their troops were to believe, how they were to vote etc. yes they would face disciplinary action. Troops are free to pray, discuss their beliefs and share their experiences. This is protected under the Constitution. Weinstein is an ass no doubt but don’t believe everything you hear. Frank Camp,
Are you and the rest of the so called “Christians”, in the military or elsewhere,  really being persecuted because “ … people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the son of man.” ?
Or is the persecution more because of this: ” … but if the salt become tasteless, how will it be made salty again ?   It is GOOD FOR NOTHING ANYMORE, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.” (Matthew 5: 13)  ????
Maybe what’s really going on is, just like the neighborhood bully goes after the week and easy target, the week and easy target is the tasteless salt.    After all, what are you going to do about it, write, call, fax & e-mail your congress critter?   Oh yeah, that’ll stop the bully alright, been workin’ pretty good so far, right ?
Then you say: “3. Does this ban include all faiths, or only Judeo-Christian based faiths? Because, it seems, in the eyes of Mikey Weinstein, that Christianity is the most dangerous.”
You complain about the likes of a “Weinstein” causing trouble for “Judeo-Christians” as if these are the ones being persecuted ” … on account of the son of man.”     Those who call themselves or are “Judeo-Christians” can’t possibly be TRUE Christians !
How can “Judeo” (those who deny that Christ has come in the flesh: 1 John 7) anti-Christs be joined with Christ or “Christians” as one (2 Corinthians 6: 14)????    The term in and of itself is an oxymoron !
And isn’t it the so so called “Judeo-Christians”, “Fundamentalist Christians”, “New Testament Only Christians”, etc., that teach the lie that God’ Laws, Statutes and Judgments have been done away with, “contrary to us”, etc., etc., (when Christ Himself said the exact opposite: Matthew 5: 17-19), the ones that have lost their saltiness ??
“Unless they speak to the Law and the prophets, there is no light in them.”
This nation has become “twice the sons of hell” as those who have proselytized it.   Do you remember who Christ identified as the proselytizers ??
Moreover, this nation as a whole hates the truth (especially the so called “Christians”) and because it does, here’s what’s happened to it:
Because they do not have a love of the truth, God has sent them a strong delusion, so that they will believe what is false in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in lawlessness. 2 Thessalonians 2: 10 – 12.
We allowed the process to begin when we decided “We The People” should be god (sovereign) and decide what is to be the supreme law of the land.
The legislative process provided by the various federal and state constitutions was the vehicle used by the enemy to corrupt over time (via gradual increments) and finally take over. This nation wanted to determine what was “good and evil” (remember the garden?), instead of enforcing His Perfect Moral Laws.
Malim in se (evil in and of itself as defined by The Great I Am, the ONLY lawgiver) vs. malim prohibitum (evil because someone determines, or legislates, it to be evil).
Furthermore, most of those who complain about what’s unchristian, anti-God, etc., etc., in all the public forums, not only do nothing but complain about them, they continue to pay for it (i. e., feed The Beast), as well as participate.
How can victory over The Beast be expected, if The Beast you complaining about is continually fed ????
The only way to save this nation is to turn back to Him, His Perfect Moral Laws, Statutes and Judgments, i.e., His Kingdom/Will On Earth. Seek Him while He may yet be found.

    • boblee747

Chris Lee Well put, I love it.  Indeed it is these so called christians that voted and put Obama in power in the first place.  And yes, they also fail to teach or understand the commandments of God.  Especially, when they say,

        boblee747,

Thanks for your reply and the thumbs up.      And, bingo! on their “nailed to the cross” nonsense.

According to them, The Great I Am, who became flesh and dwelt among us apparently just “didn’t get the memo”.

As I scrolled through the comments I noticed a particular moron called “BobE” responding to many with no other apparent purpose than to stir up trouble.    If not that, perhaps he has an overwhelming compulsion to prove to all what a fool he is.   “Only a fool says in his heart, there is no God” (Proverbs).
Now he has responded to you and I.
I won’t be responding to him and I suggest you do the same.
He’s likely a paid gov’t “troll” sent to make people upset and keep them people busy by responding to his attacks.
I don’t know if you’re aware of it or not, but they actually do have such a program.   The poor dumb ass even uses a picture of a guy flipping everyone “The Bird’.   Oh yeah, that won’t blow his cover.
If he isn’t one of those “trolls”, there’s only one other possibility: He’s suffering from a very common malady going around these days.   It’s called: “Cranial Rectal Inversion” and there’s only one cure: A hard yank from behind with foot on rear cheek, followed up with plenty of soap and anti-bacterial shampoo.     Oh, and then there’s all that follow up therapy, which sometimes takes years.
In either case, don’t engage him in debate here.

          Chris Lee boblee747 We are losing our country because so many people have ,turned against GOD.The worse thing, yet  that America was to put an anti-GOD into the WH as top man in the nation. I believe HE gave us our last chance ot get him out of office in 2012. Even though he stole his way in, GOD allowed it because we as America have forgotten HIM This goes beyond people who do not believe in GOD to the lowest level of human living. WE are anti-GOD, to day, deliberately sling our attitudes into HIS face, such as legalizing homosexual behavior and making JESUS CHRIST a dirty  word.           11. And this is the record, that GOD hath given us eternal life, and this life isin HIS SON;
          12. He that the SON hath life; an he that hath not the SON OF GOD hath not life.

Actually, “line in the sand” is not FROM the Bible.  True, Jer. 5:22 says “I have made the sand a boundary for the sea” but only in paraphrases like “The Message” does the phrase “Line in the Sand” appear.  The origin seems to be Roman, or, more famously, the last stand at The Alamo.  I doubt anyone in either of these instances was thinking of the Bible

DOD counters Internet posts on religion issue
    by Jim Garamone
    American Forces Press Service
5/3/2013 – WASHINGTON (AFNS) — Internet posts making the rounds claiming that the Defense Department will court-martial service members who espouse Christianity are not true, a Pentagon spokesman said today.
“The Department of Defense places a high value on the rights of members of the military services to observe the tenets of their respective religions and respects, (and supports by its policy) the rights of others to their own religious beliefs, including the right to hold no beliefs,” Navy Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen said in a written statement on the issue.
“The department does not endorse any one religion or religious organization, and provides free access of religion for all members of the military services,” he added.
Internet posts are attributing a statement that superior officers who try to convert those under their command should face court-martial to Mikey Weinstein, president of the Albuquerque, N.M.-based Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and are identifying him as a Pentagon advisor, Christensen noted.
“Mr. Weinstein is not part of any DOD advisory group or committee, nor is he a consultant to the Defense Department regarding religious matters,” Christensen said. “Mr. Weinstein requested, and was granted, a meeting at the Pentagon April 23, with the Air Force judge advocate general and others, to include the deputy chief of chaplains, to express his concerns of religious issues in the military.”
Some bloggers have taken sections of Air Force Instruction 1-1 “Air Force Standards” — specifically, the section titled “Government Neutrality Regarding Religion” — out of context in supporting their take, Christensen said.
“Leaders at all levels must balance constitutional protections for an individual’s free exercise of religion or other personal beliefs and the constitutional prohibition against governmental establishment of religion,” the instruction states.
Air Force leaders at all levels “must avoid the actual or apparent use of their position to promote their personal religious beliefs to their subordinates or to extend preferential treatment for any religion. Commanders or supervisors who engage in such behavior may cause members to doubt their impartiality and objectivity. The potential result is a degradation of the unit’s morale, good order, and discipline,” the instruction goes on to say.
The instruction further says all Airmen “are able to choose to practice their particular religion, or subscribe to no religious belief at all.” It tells Airmen to practice their own beliefs while respecting differing viewpoints.
The right to practice religious beliefs does not excuse Airmen from complying with directives, instructions and lawful orders, the instruction says.
It adds that Airmen “must ensure that in exercising their right of religious free expression, they do not degrade morale, good order, and discipline in the Air Force or degrade the trust and confidence that the public has in the United States Air Force.”

paul83814 what good are facts to teabaggers? They believe what they want to believe & as long as some dipshit says that Obama is taking their guns, prosecuting Christians, is a commie, Muslim, antichrist, devil, etc they will believe it

      • PaulLeslie

BobE paul83814 Yeah, you’re right – except you forget who the dipshits are who said they want to take away guns – Feinstein, Bloomberg, and a whole roster of commie democrats who don’t believe in individual liberty and the Constituion.
So, what’s your favorite flavor – goofy grape, or koo koo blueberry?

Thanks, Paul83814.  That is helpful.  I don’t think any sincere, biblical believer  would approve of a situation where a leader in a position of authority encouraged “conversion” to please the boss.  I think that discouraging what Christians wouldn’t approve of anyway is the plain meaning of the regulation.  The concern would be if a biased tribunal misinterpreted a sincere relationship as showing favoritism.  Yes, this can happen.  Yes, it’s what Left Wing activists want to happen.  But I don’t believe that is what is actually happening now.  It’s also good to know that Mr. Weinstein is not an official adviser.
