Dr. Gosnell, Reveals Hypocrisy Of All Abortions

It is said that darkness often masquerades as light, so that it can be more easily swallowed by those upon whom it preys. Evil often shines with a brightness more radiant than the good it imitates. Evil does not devour from the outside; it eats away from the inside, wrapping your heart in a tight silk of darkness, until only a cancerous tumor is left in its place. It is slow, and methodical. It knows no bounds; and before you can understand what has happened, you have fallen victim to its lurid charms. We, as a society, are becoming further and further wrapped by evil in numerous ways, but specifically in regard to the issue of abortion.

According to CBS News:

“Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist now on trial in Philadelphia charged with seven counts of first-degree murder–he allegedly cut the spinal cords of late-term aborted babies who were born alive–apparently used to joke about the large size of some the infants he aborted and in one case, according to what a co-worker told the grand jury, said, ‘This baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop.’”

The report goes on to discuss whether or not the infants felt pain when they were terminated: “The neonatologist testified that what Gosnell told his people was absolutely false. If a baby moves, it is alive. Equally troubling, it feels a ‘tremendous amount of pain’ when its spinal cord is severed. So, the fact that Baby Boy A continued to move after his spinal cord was cut with scissors means that he did not die instantly. Maybe the cord was not completely severed. In any case, his few moments of life were spent in excruciating pain.”

This man, Dr. Gosnell, should be given the harshest punishment allowed. The way in which this trial is being covered indicates a strong feeling of disdain and repugnance toward Dr. Gosnell. This, of course, makes perfect sense, because he is, in a very real sense, a serial killer. But what interests me and disturbs me more is why people are reacting so violently to Dr. Gosnell’s crimes. The reason the general public is so disgusted by this man is because he terminated these infants just after they were released from the birth canal.

According to the CDC, approximately 11.6% of abortions are conducted after 13 weeks of gestation. Out of that 11.6%, about 1.4% of infants are aborted in what is considered the “late-term.” In hard numbers, that comes out as roughly 111,600 second and third trimester abortions performed each year.

Abortion, in general, is a barbaric practice. There are several different methods by which infants are terminated, but one of the most brutal and common methods by which abortions are conducted is called Dilation and Evacuation, or D&E. The following is an account by a former abortion doctor detailing the method of D&E:

“A second trimester D&E abortion is a blind procedure. The baby can be in any orientation or position inside the uterus. Picture yourself reaching in with the Sopher clamp and grasping anything you can…Once you have grasped something inside, squeeze on the clamp to set the jaws and pull hard – really hard. You feel something let go and out pops a fully formed leg about 4 to 5 inches long. Reach in again and grasp whatever you can. Set the jaw and pull really hard once again and out pops an arm about the same length. Reach in again and again with that clamp and tear out the spine, intestines, heart and lungs…The toughest part of a D&E abortion is extracting the baby’s head. The head of a baby that age is about the size of a plum and is now free floating inside the uterine cavity…You will know you have it right when you crush down on the clamp and see a pure white gelatinous material issue from the cervix. That was the baby’s brains. You can then extract the skull pieces. If you have a really bad day like I often did, a little face may come out and stare back at you.”

So, we have a man–a serial killer–who is reviled by Americans because he terminates infants by cutting their spinal chords just after birth. On the other hand, we have a society that allows abortions on demand–for almost any reason–in which the infant is terminated in just as gruesome a way as those who were executed by Dr. Gosnell. The only difference is the fact that the infants killed by Dr. Gosnell were outside the mother. Had they remained inside the birth canal or uterus, he would be a celebrated man; vaunted to the highest levels of Liberal society.

We have a disturbing schizophrenia about us that we can allow the brutal termination of a child in one instance, then be repulsed in the case of another. They are the same! There is no justification aside from potentially life threatening complications with the life of the mother.

Evil has worked its way so deeply into our culture that we make these arbitrary distinctions. We paint Dr. Gosnell as wicked, when a doctor who does essentially the same thing–only with the infant inside the mother–is praised as a champion of women’s rights.

Plato said that Ignorance is the root and stem of all evil. Our ignorance has moved beyond a simple failure to understand; it has become hazardous.
