“Combating Terrorism” - Another Stab Wound In The First Amendment

The way to defeat the First Amendment is not to cut it off at once, but to make it bleed to death from a thousand wounds. The government does this not by law, but by funding. It creates a military industrial complex that possesses a high demand for studies and plans and white papers and “research” (and I use quote marks because I am being sarcastic) about issues of importance to the state. Once you have this nexus of think tanks and government departments and NGOs, then all you need to do is create an environment of gossip.

Yes, all it takes is gossip. By pumping out a number of documents that redefine free speech as “low level terrorism” and redefine loyalty to the constitution as “violent extremism” the First Amendment can be neutralized in a word-driven military coup.

“A West Point think tank has issued a paper warning America about ‘far right’ groups such as the ‘anti-federalist’ movement, which supports ‘civil activism, individual freedoms and self-government.’ The report issued this week by the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., is titled ‘Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right.’… It lumps limited government activists with three movements it identifies as ‘a racist/white supremacy movement, an anti-federalist movement and a fundamentalist movement.’… The report also draws a link between the mainstream conservative movement and the violent ‘far right,’ and describes liberals as “future oriented” and conservatives as living in the past. ‘While liberal worldviews are future- or progressive -oriented, conservative perspectives are more past-oriented, and in general, are interested in preserving the status quo.” the report says. “The far right represents a more extreme version of conservatism, as its political vision is usually justified by the aspiration to restore or preserve values and practices that are part of the idealized historical heritage of the nation or ethnic community.’ The report adds: ‘While far-right groups’ ideology is designed to exclude minorities and foreigners, the liberal-democratic system is designed to emphasize civil rights, minority rights and the balance of power.’”

I’m not going to respond to this transparent attempt to criminalize political opinions. It is one of several such reports that has come out and its objective is to create a monolithic bullying culture that can justify the use of force on people who do not submit to the liberal paradigm. It is a manifesto for those who, in the future, will kill Americans for being non-statist conservatives or libertarians or Christians.

But I notice that the perspective the Washington Time’s article is completely naïve. It also says:

“The West Point center typically focuses reports on al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists attempting to gain power in Asia, the Middle East and Africa through violence… ‘A Republican congressional staffer who served in the military told The Washington Times: ‘If [the Defense Department] is looking for places to cut spending, this junk study is ground zero.’ ‘Shouldn’t the Combating Terrorism Center be combating radical Islam around the globe instead of perpetuating the left’s myth that right-wingers are terrorists?’ the staffer said.”

But anyone who reads in the newspaper about Libya or Syria knows that we actually use terrorists and fund them to overturn other nations. The point of the “war on terror” was never primarily about really defeating terrorism overseas. The point was to have a popular support for indefinite detention, Presidential kill lists of American citizens, drone attacks, warrantless wiretaps, and all the other tools of the totalitarian state to be used on American citizens. Now that it is all in place, it is time to redefine terrorism as loyalty to the Constitution and love for the American Republic.

We’ve known for at least three years that the Pentagon considers protesting to be “low level terrorism.”

The noose is around our necks. Are we still going to pretend that it landed there by accident?

It only takes one general to start pushing this BS as it did for getting perverts legalized in the military and forcing Chaplains to stop complaining and accept it as normal.  I wonder how many others have been forced to shut their mouths.  It is already illegal, according to most military NCOs, to criticize Obama or any military policies to their government representatives.  We are well on our way to self-destruction and tyranny.

    • Public_Citizen says:

@RalphZ We’re also well on the way to bringing back an old military custom called “fragging”.
It seems to flourish during times of tyrannical behaviour.

    • LTCB says:

@RalphZ You forget, these are not “children of the left” typically.  These are boys and girls from Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Missouri and other states that love the nation, love the Constitution and will not follow illegal orders.  They’re not zombies and they do think.  Especially the NCO’s.

      • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCB  @RalphZ You are so right!

      • RalphZ says:

@LTCB Some of the ones I’ve met and there are more showing up, Don’t know who Nathan Hale was, or even the three branches of Government or even one signer of the Declaration of Independence.  The only definition that several could give me of the First Amendment was the lie, “Separation of Church and State”.  Sad really for our education system is no longer educating but seems to be in the business of brain washing.  Then add to that the changes in regs and teachings in the military academies and schools you have a very potent propaganda machine.  I would guess we have maybe 5 years before the minds are changed.  That’s how I see it.

        @LTCB  @RalphZ
Unfortunately, The United States Misguided Children found out too late that it was training 1 enlistment only gangbangers, who were going back to their previous life and then training them with Marine skills. Now that is a real travesty!

        • LTCB says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee  @RalphZ As one of the “children” I can say that did happen even in the ’70’s.  Just like some went back to their mob families and used their skill sets there.  I knew that MOST of my 82 man boot camp platoon were offered a choice of prison or the Marines.  Most that were really bad eggs were weeded out in that first tour.  BCD’s and DD’s were handed out pretty liberally.  But, some found a new life.  Our Series Honor Man was an LA barrios gang-banger that had almost killed another guy for hurting his wife.  Judge told him prison or the Marines.  He because the best Marine out of about 326 troops.  Made E-3 out of Boot Camp.  I bumped into him several years later.  I was a typical “good Marine”.  Did my job and kept my nose clean.  Had just made E-4.  When I bumped into SSG Cordova, I couldn’t believe it.  His squadron was rotating out of Iwakuni, Japan.  He had been an SSG for almost a year.  Some lives are redeemed by the Corps.

And there is not one shard of bias here?

    • LTCB says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee Two tours to Iraq and 35 years USMC and Army.  I’m assuming that you’re referring to the bias of this administration that wants to turn all patriots into terrorists.  If you’re alleging bias in the comments or article, I have to say, you’re part of the problem and not part of the solution for what ails the nation.  Semper Fi … (you know the rest)

      • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCB No! You have misunderstood my post. My career started in “71,” in the Southeast Asian War College, at Nam! I was with the teams, get my drift? Got out, finished College, and retreaded again in 82. Had a building fall on top of me on Oct. 23, 1983, need I say more Marine? Got a headshot in Grenada, glancing blow, did anti terrorism in Italy, anti drug interdiction in Nicuraugua, and Columbia,  got out in 88. Retreaded again in 90, was assigned to be a reserve combat instructor to get them up to speed before, and  during Iraq. I went to Bosnia in 2001 and got another glancing headshot, moral of number 2, three strikes and you are out, so I separated finally in 2005.. Actually, you can’t shoot a Scotsman in the head, we’re to thick headed! I have around 13.5 yrs of combat deployment and my comment was actually aimed at the report from West Point! An extremely prestigious school of learning, a historical bastion of past leaders and heroes, but since this P.C. government got in charge, the brass in my opinion is CYA’ing it and agreeing to B.S.!
The First Amendment gives us that right, and the Second Amendment allows us to back up our grievences!
Sorry that I wasn’t clearer, did this help. I’m on the side of “Right,” that is AMERICA AS WE KNOW IT, not as how these li8beral pukes want to shape it!
I remember a saying from the 60’s, “BETTER  DEAD THAN RED!”

        • LTCB says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee Remember when we were fighting communists, now they’re in charge.  Feels like we entered and “alternate reality”.  God bless and thank you for your service.  I only had to deal with rockets all the time.  I only had one time someone was making it personal when they shot a red-eye at hour bird coming out of Fallujah when I was supporting the Marines.  I felt a need to pray for my trip, then I decided I should pray for everyone on the bird, then I was impressed to pray for the other bird of the flight also.  We had an incident that delayed the flight an hour.  I think that had something to do with the bad guys not being ready for us.  They fired two at the lead bird and led them too much.  Then they fired one at the side of ours and it was dead-on.  It got half way up and kicked over 90 degrees and went back to the earth.  It was pretty cool the way it switched directions so fast and I never even felt excited about it.  I asked the gunner why we didn’t light them up and he said the pilot told him to hold fire and that he had called in the ground-pounders to go after them.  Glad you came home.

        • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCBI tended to be up close and personal! Double O buck from a Mossberg 500 12 gauge that was modified, .45 Colt ACP, and sometimes the M-60 as my primary. We carried the first M-4 carbines introduced as an alternative to the long sweet-16. Us, we, would always be armed to the teeth. The fire teams were 6 to 8, encompassing the firepower of a full platoon. Hit hard, fast, and surprisingly, then run! That is how we survived. Do maximum damage in minimum time, and get T.F. out.
I will now tell you about a declassified situation. We were out of DaNang, and went on a search and destroy mission as was our usual M.O.!
We were carefully slithering through the beautiful foliage of Nam, no resistance, no sightings, and we all commited the first combat sin of all time, we became complacent, as the affects of our patrols was wearing uncle charlie down, real bad! WE ALL RELAXED ON A PATROL!!
We had lowered our guards for some stupid reason, broke out of the thick ass jungle, straight into the sleeping area of a Battalion of Charlie!  What would you do? There was a bounty on all of our heads, so we walked right through the center of the sleeping battalion like we owned it. The young guards had heard many stories about the, “Devils with green faces,” so they froze! We gave them the fingers to the mouth signal to keep quiet, and we lived to fight another day! And we did report the posit of the Bat to our opsec! F-14 Tom Cats responded. We won that one!!!!
Wait, you went through a helo death roll and survived? OH RAH BUCKO! You are just a crotchety old bad ass like me!
“Heaven doesn’t want us, and Hell’s afraid that we’ll take over!” That’s why we are still here tormenting wives, girlfriends, and politicians! We have earned that right!!!  The Navy says, “Honor and Glory”!!!!
May fair winds and following seas be your destiny.

        • LTCB says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee No “death roll” on that ride.  They kept it pretty smooth and level with no change in speed.  It was night and the shooters were basically “shooting at sound”.  We were flying totally blacked out.  My brother-in-law (now gone) was with the 1st Cav with you in Nam.  I had been in Kanoeohe and there was an old office I was supposed to clean out.  Some of what it had were EXTREMELY detailed E&E maps and navigational maps for Nam.  I showed them to him once and he started telling me about different ops.  Then, he realized he was pointing at points in Cambodia and Laos.  He had NEVER known he was in those places.  He just remembered hilltops, villages and such.  Shocked him.  In 04 we had an old Nam vet running the mess in the large messhall at Anaconda.  He was with the “black helicopter” crowd as a gunner.  In Iraq he was a MSG.  A Major gave him and his crew grief and he decked the Major.  When the Major complained to our Colonel, the full bull told him to keep his face out of the way next time.  No charges filed.  But, he did advise the MSG not to do that again, please.

        • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCB  Been there myself. Funny how some young Ensigns just fall into your fist at appropriate times when all you are trying to do  is  scratch your nose! They all have that uncanny ability. I know of the Cambodia/Laos connection, we were operating in that arena as well. It was all hush hush for we went………., well, you understand what I’m saying here! The fewer the words, the bigger the picture.
Happy for your safe return also. Just remember, “U.F.O.’s are real, The Air Force doesn’t exist!”

        • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCB After I re -read your post, I realized it was the rocket that went 90 degrees over and south! I was thinking the chopper! You never want to be in one when they go “Auto-Rotation, it just means you’re hitting the ground at about 2 miles an hour slower! Sucks really! Been there and have gotten out unscathed, but not so some other brothers. We went straight to combat mode, perimeter integrity/ security and such, and wait for V.C. to attack us in this diminished capacity. We worked it out, all stayed alive, to this day I don’t know how, with such overwhelming odds, but, W.T.F! It is what it was!
God was on our side that day!

        • RivahMitch says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee  @LTCB Indeed. Semper Fi!

  3. Public_Citizen says:

The West Point Think Tank must use “Red Queen Publishing” to disseminate their “reports”.
The entire quoted text has black as white and a complete reversal of the actual, provable focus and direction of the left of center and right of center political movements.
Any government financed “study” has to be filtered through a very fine propaganda screen.  The writers know that if they don’t produce a body of work that fits paradigm of “government is good – more government is better” they will have to find a real job.
The vision of the founding fathers and the thousands that fought, bled, and died to make it reality is nearly extinguished.  Sic Semper Tyranis

  4. Randy131 says:

One would only hope that the people in our military would be ‘Patriots’, before any other member of our society would want to take on that label.  But to be a true ‘Patriot’, one would have to believe as those who were our original ‘Patriots’, and to do that, one would also have to be educated as to what made those original ‘Patriots’ to be so labeled.  That means knowing the reasons why they took actions to be ‘Patriots’, what they fought for, and what the result of their actions were that began this great nation and instituted the heritage they blessed us with.  All this can be found in the ‘Declaration of Independence’, the ‘US Constitution’, and the ‘Bill of Rights’, along with the ‘Federalist Papers’ that explains the reasoning behind those three famous American Documents.  Unfortuanely, for the last 40 years or so, the Socialists and Communists who have taken over our American educational system, from KIndergarten through High School, as well as all our Colleges and Universities, and those Socialists and Communists have been remiss to teach our children the true and complete history of this great nation, and purposely so.  The result of this omission is the publishing of things like what is in this article, by American minds that have been indoctrinated in the socialist and communist manifestos, to ‘CHANGE’ this great nation, as Obama had promised, into not only what the ‘Founding Fathers’ fought against’, but what all Americans, down through our history, also fought against.  That is why the Federal Government daily violates and usurps the ‘Bill of Rights’, and mandates written into the ‘US Constitution’ by the ‘Founding Fathers’, in order to tyrannically enslave the American people in the name of security, and dependence for their livelyhood through handouts and entitlements.  Our heritage from the ‘Founding Fathers’ was a free and prosperous people, living in a nation of laws, not one man’s will, represented by elective officials who make the laws for the American people, not through one man’s will and whim when writing ‘Executive Orders’, which are the same as King George III dictates against the colonists, that he ordered to be carried out by his army of occupation in the colonies, and cause for revolution by the American ‘Patriots’, that we desire our military to be not similar to, but exactly like.  Unfortunately, I also fear that Obama’s promised ‘Change’ has been implemented successfully, and this ‘West Point’ document is a prime example of that fact.  How I now long for the United States of America that existed when I was a young lad in the 1950s, when nobody would even dare to think of violating the rights of any American, by violating or usurping any parts of the three aforementioned famous American Documents, and GOD was the center of our existence.

    • LTCB says:

@Randy131 I still live that way and, yes, I was born long enough ago that we still learned true American History and Civics and studied our founders and their writings and their lives.  My High School was Nathan Hale named for, you guessed it, the Patriot.  We had a newspaper named “The Patriot” at one time.  Look up and read the story of George Washington’s dream at Valley Forge.  I do not know how “true” it is.  But, it is inspirational when you’re looking into the abyss.

      • Randy131 says:

Isn’t it a shame that when we are now contemplating the condition and future of our once great nation, that we refer to that as “looking into the abyss”, which so many of us are proned to do because of that condition that Obama has perpetrated upon us all.  Are there any ‘Patriots’ left that are young enough to stand up and take action against the morass of fascism this nation has been impaled on, by one man dictating his will upon all others, through the simple whim of writing an “Executive Order’, and deliver this nation and it’s people from the road of perdition that Obama is leading us all down?  Did you ever, in your most wildest dreams, ever think the good ole USA would be where we are at today?  I can only believe that GOD is punishing us all for the dire sins of our society, in killing His innocent unborn children, and accepting the abominations he warned us about in the Holy Bible.  I can’t see how we are any different than society was in the times of Noah.

      • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

@LTCB  @Randy131 Nathan Hale, “Give me Liberty or give me death.” Just how many Americans would say that today as they get food stamps and rent? Effin leaches on society and a supposed leader who is a total fake ass piece of CRAP!

        • Randy131 says:

          @Combat Veteran Seabee  @LTCB
More than you think!  People are preparing.  Just last month 250,000 people joined the NRA, and I’ll bet all those people are also new gun and ammo purchasers, since gun and ammo sales are skyrocketing, and people already with guns and ammo can only use so many guns and shoot just so much ammo.

  5. Newsel says:

Actually the report equated Neo-Nazi’s with the extreme right wing. Nazi’s are in fact National Socialists. This is but a other case of disinformation and demonizing. The National Black Republican web site lists another 12 (+) instances where the Republication are on the loosing end of the left wing media propaganda war.

  8. Randy G says:

Free speech–“Low level terrorism”? sounds like the TRUE terrorists  work for the government.

    • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

      @Randy G  What’s the difference between a, “Moderate,” and a “Extremist” Muslim?
       Their distance from the bomb!

      • Randy G says:

@Combat Veteran Seabee You can bet  the real muslim that talks  about bombing people ain’t no where near it. He gets some FOOL to do it for him.

        • Combat Veteran Seabee says:

          @Randy G
As we would say in the miltary, “You got that shit right!” And yes, nobody in a fighting hole would say, “YOU’VE!” Grammar wasn’t our first priority!

        • txpatriot says:

@Randy G @Combat Veteran Seabeeiwas just saying something simular to what you just wrote. I said ” ever notice the guys telling the terrorist to strwp a bomb on them never themselves strap a bomb on.

  9. nomorespeech3 says:

The concept of censoring speech in colleges and universities because of concern with possible adverse affect on feelings of third parties began the rapid decline into a society that denies speech.
The recent move to require all those who post on the internet to publically identify themselves seeks to restore the pre Revolutionary War status of King George prosecuting all those who ‘defame’ the realm. (E.g., Pres. Obama’s vow to the UN Gen Assembly 9/23/12 that “The future must not belong to those who defame the prophet (sic) of Islam.”)
Speech that is not censored by internet services, Ebay, etc., is a threat to a society that cannot stand the light of day. America is rapidly devolving into a society that cannot stand daylight.

  10. Fireboatman says:

Those in the think tank at West Point might well be totaly surprised. How many of our military that have been brainwashed in the field like with Tokio Rose during WWII or were taken in by Hanoi Jane during Viet Nam or the POW’s that were during WWII and never wavered? Reminds me of the Mininster of Propaganda of the Third Rich, I think it was Himler, he was a master at it and literally had all of Germany under his control except for a few who eventually turned the tide when General Patton rolled up to the gates of Berlin. I do not think that our propagandist here have that kind of charisma to influence many and therefore it would end up as it did in the Soviet Union where the Army turned their weapons at the Kremlin. I say this though, our public schools no longer teach about our history, about our constitution, about our forefathers and what they had written. A meaningful question I would ask any military person or any citizen to guage their identity with us is “What does Valley Forge mean to you?”

  11. William Wallace says:

Amazing… what is being described as terrorism sounds like what I was taught was the proper way to be an American.  Adherence to the Constitution and be self sufficient were all-American virtues.  What are they teaching the folks in West Point?

    • RalphZ says:

@William Wallace They have decided to teach what they have been teaching in public schools and what has taken over all colleges, or just about all.  That America is not the shining city on the hill.  That we did not have our beginnings in the Holy Bible and the Gospel of Christ.  That we came here to destroy the indians, to pillage the land and to kill anyone who did not come from Europe.  That we are racists and that the rich cheat the workers and take advantage of the down trodden.  That we are stingy and hateful.  (Did I miss anything?) But this is what they are teaching and add to that the teaching in colleges that anyone who is a Christian and follows the Holy Bible and Christ’s teachings are bigots and homophobes.
This is why I say that we only have about 5 years before the military’s leaders are brainwashed to the point that they will fire on Americans to take away their civil rights that God gave us.  Oh well, the people must want this for the majority does nothing except want more from government and don’t believe that God gave them anything and don’t believe they can survive without government handouts.  They are like fatted cattle waiting to be butchered.  A shame really for there is one thing I learned, and that is the Truth is the Truth, whether or not anyone believes it does not make it not the Truth.

  12. johnnyangel10 says:

This is indeed a harbinger of liberal warfare against everything this country was founded on! To put out a paper selecting patriots that cherish the very founding of our freedoms, as equal to Islamic terrorists, should scare ANY free-thinking American! Trouble is, we now have half the country leaning to a world citizenship. That is the truth. Believe it. That is where the policies of this fear mongering administration are going. Believe it. There is a history of this country and how it has fought for its freedoms. The patriotic people are not the worry. The half of the electorate who are anti-American,as we knew our country, want NOTHING of that country. So,who is the danger? I guess it who you voted for!! AND… who holds the power.

  13. nanblan says:

Perhaps if Mr.Perliger (manager of study and his far left liberal friends would stop trying to defy our Constitution by taking away our freedoms and rights (i.e. 2nd amendment; Obamacare,) they could stop worrying themselves about these so called “far right conservatives” whom they presume to be so dangerous.
I believe it’s called common sense.
